The Nevada State Athletic Commission will meet next week, and one of their most controversial decisions in recent memory could be altered.

Diaz and the NSAC have supposedly been in talks to alter the terms of the suspension.

“Just spoke with my legal team at Campbell & Williams and talks with the NV athletic commission are going well,” Diaz wrote on Instagram. “We’re working hard with them to get this right. Thanks for the support.”

“Hearing on motion for reconsideration and proposed settlement agreement against mixed martial artist Nick Diaz, for possible action,” is currently the second item on the NSAC meeting agenda.

Saw this earlier.

I'm not gonna hold my breath on the Diaz thing, but I'm optimistic.

The Wanderlei thing should be interesting.

I dont expect Wand to get any favors whatsoever. I do think Nick will have his reduced to 18-24 months though.

Whatever it is for Wand it has to be shorter than a lifetime ban. I kinda like that a judge shut that shit down.

I hope they give Wand a suspended sentence w/ time served, and let the man earn a living. For fucks sake, he didn't murder anyone...didn't hold a lock to long, or hit someone after the bell. Move the fuck on already ya know.

I don't even know how long he's been out.

Running from a drug test is bad, but not "ban for life" bad.

If they don't lift the atrocious life time ban from Wanderlei, that is just criminal.

Exactly, and it was a first offense. They made an example out of him... yet I can think of plenty of other guys who have done way, way worse. I mean Barnett failed THREE STEROID TESTS. Three! And he is still fighting. Wand ran away one time, he has one offense on his record, and they ban him for his entire life. How the fuck does that make any sense at all? Especially when you consider other guys have done exactly the same thing - high tailed it out of there and did NOT take the surprise test? Why exactly were they allowed to fight again, and Wanderlei was banned for life?

Overeem literally ran from a test, hopped on a plane across the damn ocean. Was he suspended for LIFE? Fuck no, not even close. And that was years before the Wand incident.

It's disgusting how they have treated him, and even worse that the UFC refuses to release him from his contract so he can at least make a living for his family fighting overseas. Dana is a piece of shit, just like a Don King type. Uses up fighters and then hangs them out to dry when they get older and are not of any use to him anymore. That is, unless you're one of his buddy pals, like Chuck, Forrest, or Hughes, Then you get a cushy "office job" where you basically live on a UFC salary without actually doing anything for the rest of your life. The other guys who fight and get brain damage for this company are cast aside with nothing more than a "good luck" from the promoter after they've had their skulls bashed in for the promotion on numerous occasions.

Both the banning of Wanderlei FOR LIFE on his first offense and the UFC REFUSING to let him out of the contract due to this are two of the worst things that have ever happened in MMA history. Just straight up vindictive, disgusting bullshit. Worst of all, to a legend who has given us so many epic fights, has treated the fans amazingly and been an ambassador to this sport for a long, long time.

The treatment of him makes me sick, I literally feel sick writing this. Wanderlei of all fucking people.. yet Overeem, a guy who not only was cheating but was openly mocking the fact by wearing "DRUG FREE" shirts while he walking around at 270 pounds of chemical induced muscle, didn't get nearly the punishment Wand did.. for doing the exact same thing, but worse.

God, I can't even think about this shit, that's how fucked up it is. Fuck them.

The incident occurred in May 2014 and his ban was handed down in Sept 2014
The "test" date was May 24th so I could see them possibly making it a 2 year ban from the date of the missed test... Then again, it may depend on whether or not Wanderlei or anyone representing him actually shows up to the hearing. If no one is there on his behalf or if he isn't even on the phone then I pretty much expect them to continue to drag it out and try to ensure that he stays on the shelf for as long as they can keep him there.

So... I'm kind of torn on this one. Wanderlei was destined for the Big Nog treatment. Dana still says that he likes Wanderlei for fucks sake! He was a company guy and they seemed to love him. Then he bails on the test and acts like it's no big deal. Dana comes out and says that he's hearing from the commission that Wand is fucked and that they're probably going to try to make an example out of him and then we see Crazy Wanderlei appear. He starts taking shots at the UFC for not being loyal (which is pretty damned valid but not so much in this case), he starts bitching about how he's not making any money (which as we learned from Rampage and Randy never sits well and the UFC is quick to point out how many millions that a fighter has been paid), and it just keeps snowballing.

Then he doesn't bother showing up for his hearing which just makes it that much easier for the NAC to fuck him over without even having to look him in the face and lube him up and Wand continues to do shit that he knows he shouldn't do (Bellator Meet and Greet)...

Now I'm by no means saying that the UFC shouldn't release him and let him work overseas BUT I am saying that if he hadn't have burnt those bridges and hadn't have lashed out and thrown out all kinds of random accusations then the odds of it happening would have been much much more likely.

You piss off people/a person that is known to be vindictive as hell and then wonder why they don't do what you want? That just doesn't make any sense to me.

The entire situation has been handled in the worst ways possible for all parties and for a change, the UFC may be the least egregious fucksticks in the situation.

Yeah, but at the end of the day, he should be allowed to fight somewhere. LIFE TIME BAN is excessive. This would never, ever happen in boxing, because the fighters are in control there. There would be no contract that could prevent them from making money somewhere to feed their family.
