It will be interesting to see what infrastructure programs the feds and provinces end up proposing and putting funds to. Especially in Alberta and Saskatchewan. It's good in theory that the government wants to stimulate the economy but I question if it will be anything actually effective or just posturing and make work projects with no actual economic value like the "Economic Action Plan" of the previous administration.

Sad days up here in Canada. the Dollar is sinking like crazy (currently at 68 cents to the USD, the lowest its been in 13 years, the lowest ever was 62 cents) and is predicted to get to around 55 cents by this time next year.

Canada's dollar is tied to oil 100%, its our biggest commodity by far, and unfortunately we are not a big player in that game. With oil so low Canada is projected to see no "recovery" until 2019 AT LEAST. thats 3 fucking years of people losing their jobs and livelihood.
68 cent dollar was when our economy was kicking ass on account of manufacturing. Those jobs went away as our dollar rose. As for oil, as long as we're supplying most of America's, we're a pretty big player on that front.

I wouldn't put too much stock in the doom and gloom forecasts of 55 cent dollars and 3 year fallouts. Those projections are by the same people who said oil would never crash to where it is. They're also the ones who, you know, tanked the economy in 08.

Hey bro, just adding my perspective. I am involved with two of the biggest energy firms out here (Alberta) and they are taking a hammering, losing money on each barrel made right now. The States is also much less dependent on our oil due to the shale operations they have now. It's actually an exporter now (or was, before the Saudis crushed the market). That's a big reason Keystone got nay sayed, they want to focus on bringing American crude to the refineries and shipping lanes of the Gulf. The feeling in the board rooms is doom and gloom, especially because the governments of BC and Ontario and Quebec are blocking proposed pipelines that would allow Alberta's oil to get to market. Alberta (and Sask) is the only major producer of oil in the world that is land locked, right now that is proving a huge problem. The craziest thing is the proposed pipeline through Ontario and Quebec is already in place, it just transports natural gas from East to West. So all that would be required there is a flow referral and product change. But all three provincial governments are holding out for money that isn't there. Alberta has an operating budget of about 3.5 billion dollars this year, except there are not enough oil revenues (through the royalty program) to even supply this much.

and to add, this is a serious the question. who's buying? the market is so flooded with oil right now the last thing it needs is MORE oil, driving the price down even more.

no one is buying oil right now, especially our oil.

Although I understand completely what you're saying. This is neither the first time that those producers have been in this position with oil. The doom and gloom is because they were told oil would never come back down, now that they have, they're scrambling to save their precious money. It's hardly a secret that no one, banks included, saves for a rainy day anymore.

Yup, but if the price rebounds and we have access to the Atlantic Western Europe would love to not be buying Putins shit, for example. China was a big player in the Oil Sands but they have mostly bailed because of the high cost and inability to ship it to themselves.

Also, currently The oil East of Sarnia Ontario all comes from Norway or the Arab Gulf States, so the main benefit of the pipeline reversal would be at least flooding the largest Canadian Market (Ontario and Quebec) with Canadian oil, which is much better from a nationalistic economic approach.

I agree. I heard a high ranking executive opining for a war to bring the price back up. The guy is a multi-billionaire, he will be fine whatever happens.

Looks like we both recognize that we are both stunningly correct and intelligent. ;)

Canadian strip clubs ballets are far superior to those in the USA.

BC has world renowned stick icky.

US dollar is about to buy a shitload in the great white North.

Hockey rocks, if you fuckers would just explain to us yanks a little bit. Beer and fist fights? We understand that. You're marketing it all wrong.

I saw where half you fuckers live in Kelowna...so beautiful I thought it was CGI.

If y'all would just legalize the greenery, you could easily pick up some serious tourism.

The fundamentals are solid...you guys will be alright.

I have a place in Fairmont Hot Springs B.C., should we do an official TMMAC event there?
