David Branch continues to be one of the highest earners outside of the UFC. The two-division World Series of Fighting champion pocketed a $130,000 purse for his middleweight title defense over Clifford Starks at WSOF 30, according to information the Nevada Athletic Commission released Monday to MMA Fighting.

UFC veteran Jon Fitch was the only other significant earner on the card. He took home $70,000 for a unanimous decision victory over Joao Zeferino which earned him the vacant WSOF welterweight title.

Main card (NBC Sports Network)
David Branch ($65,000 + $65,000 = $130,000) def. Clifford Starks ($15,000)
Jon Fitch ($35,000 + $35,000 = $70,000) def. Joao Zeferino ($15,000)
Vinny Magalhaes ($7,000 + $7,000 = $14,000) def. Jake Heun ($10,000)
Abu Azaitar ($3,000 + $3,000 = $6,000) def. Danny Davis Jr. ($3,000)

Preliminary Card (MMA Fighting)
Abubakar Nurmagomedov ($3,500 + $3,500 = $7,000) def. Matt Frincu ($4,000)
Rex Harris ($1,500 + $1,500 = $3,000) def. Clinton Williams ($4,000)
Steve Kozola ($3,000 + $3,000 = $6,000) def. Matt Church ($1,000)
Adam Acquaviva ($2,000 + $2,000 = $4,000) def. Andres Ponce ($800)
Zach Bunnell ($500 + $500 = $1,000) def. Jeff Roman ($500)

Wow, it's incredible that fight league with a major network deal is actually paying out a 3-figure purse to a fighter. And people think the UFC's 10/10k deal is bad...

It should be listed as

Zach Bunnell ($500 + $500 = $1,000) def. Jeff Roman (gas money, hotel fare, lunch and dinner)

In Vegas you'd be lucky if that covered all of that.

500 is fucked up...I wonder how much %wise goes to the WSOF, Bellator and UFC fighters.. I would not expect high pay for WSOF, 500 is obscene though...but also, sadly, understandable. Yes they have a tv deal..but look at the fight night live threads even here, they are practically dead...even a lot of "hardcore" fans don't tune in and its a shame. IIRC WSOF 29 had about 208k of viewers...that's really not a lot. In that way I guess their 500 is the UFC's 5000.

It is horrible that fighters are getting paid that little, but can we really compare them, or bellator, to the UFC at this point in time?

I mean the UFC has the most lucrative tv deal out of all three. They opirate in the ppv business like 16 times a year. They have been around for almost 17 years(under zuffa)

I remember lorenzo stated that it took around 4 years for the UFC to see a single profit, so we can assume that the UFC has been profitable since 2005ish.

I would be shocked if either bellator or wsof is seeing a single(overall) profit. They are probably deep in the red. This is Cokers first real year as president. It'll take YEARS for bellator to even get mentioned in the same sentence as the UFC (money wise)

Say what you will about the UFC, but 500?

The guy would've atleast gotten paid 10/10.

According to Chael Sonnen on his podcast that WSOF actually pays for TV time which I don't understand how they even stay in business if they're paying to be on TV, paying the fighters, and renting venues. how do they make money I can only imagine their live tickets sales aren't very much I guess they charge for commercial time on the broadcast but that wouldnt seem to cover all expenses. if this is all true no wonder they are renting volleyball courts and fighters are getting paid 500 dollars

Oh wow, I wouldn't have expected that at all...I'd have thought their TV deal would earn them money, kinda like Spike and Bellator (?)..that's astounding to hear..but makes sense. Thanks for the info bro.

Im pretty sure its just a front being used to launder money at this point. Ali whats his name seems like a pretty shady dude with all the crazy stories about him.

Naw the only things I remember reading was the he lied about being on Egypts Judo Olympic team. And that there was a rumor that he had ties to a terrorist organization which is a huge accusation and hasn't been proven. I have no clue what to think but it all seems a bit fishy

Hmm... I wonder how that could be true. I haven't watched many WSOF events, so maybe someone can answer for me: are their advertisers (the guys in the commercials) the same as the guys on the mat? If that's the case, that would make sense, and would mean that WSOF is pocketing that money instead of NBCSports. I mean... I can't see any other way of doing that if they are actually paying for the airtime. Unless NBC is using it as some kind of write-off on taxes... like they are fulfilling their public access agreement in a round-about way...
