On the night of March 24th, former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was involved in yet another driving misdemeanor charge.

"Bones" was pulled over by officer Jason Brown of the Albuquerque Police Department, and was given five traffic citations for drag racing, exhibition driving, use of modification of exhaust systems, failure to maintain traffic lane, and improper display of registration plate.

The fighter, in turn, denied the accusations, stating he was only revving his engine while stopped at a red light to give acknowledgement to some fans who were then next to him.

This led to a heated verbal exchange that was caught on the officer’s body camera, showing Jones calling Brown a "pig" and an "absolute f-----g liar". Five days later, he was arrested for probation violation.

For his part, Jones has maintained his innocence to the said charges. In a report by MMA Fighting, attorney Nancy Hollander spoke in behalf of her client during Thursday's probation violation hearing, stating a not guilty plea.

"We intend to fight these traffic violations. We believe that they're bogus. We believe that he was profiled."

Jones will be facing number six-ranked light heavyweight contender Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197 on April 23rd in Las Vegas for the interim light heavyweight title. It will serve as the replacement fight for the originally scheduled rematch between Jones and current champion Daniel Cormier, after the latter pulled out due to injury.

They just said profiled, not racially profiled, but they might have meant racially. I'm not sure.

I'd like to see the dashcam footage from before he was pulled over.

While I wouldn't be shocked if they meant that it was because he was black, at least partially.. I also think there is a pretty good chance that they mean he was profiled because he's Jon Jones and the ABQ PD know his history. Not sure, but that has been the implication I have heard a couple of times.

Corvettes can be profiled, but the anti pc crowd only thinks about race...

Could be I guess I just based it on the situation right now in the US. Everything these days is race related

He got profiled because he was in a souped up Corvette and he was revving his engine. Not because hes Black.

I would have profiled him too because of that. Him peeling out at the light didnt help matters.

Him being a dick to the cop didnt help either.

Totally agree. Most cops would never take that kind of verbal abuse.

Revving up your engine can be legally regarded as enciting a drag race, whether you speed or not. And his behavior got him all the other tickets. He was being a douche, the cop was being a douche back, and he took that round.

Calling the cop a pig shows he hasn't matured in those regards. He seemed surprised that he was pulled over, as if that somehow is a crazy idea. Not with your driving-record Jon...

Glad he has a chauffeur now.

The only part of the video we saw (as you put it him being a "douche" to the cop) was after the cop had already written the tickets and had brought them back for Jones to sign. We don't know if he was a "douche" to the cop before that.

Maybe so, but the behavior is consistant with the outcome of this ordeal.

Jones is ------------------. Love watching him fight, but -------------------. I hope the APD utilizes this as a classroom training video in the academy on how to properly "Go Rin No Sho" a celebrity with a huge ego.

EDIT: C'mon BaneBreaksBacks @BaneBreaksBacks, no fighter bashing please.

Thx,
Wild

The tickets were already written before a word came out of his mouth. By then he was justified in saying whatever he wanted.

He is just very lucky that he didn't escalate the situation to a point where more than just tickets were issued. That chip on his shoulder will continue to grow, and you will definitely see Jones in worst situations later on down the line.

This is true. Jones should consider himself fortunate the peace office was kind enough to not cite him for soliciting a drag race.

I agree that Jones can do messed up and stupid things sometimes, but he's not lucky that anything. The biggest problem in this country is that people think cops have a right to escalate situations further. By law I can curse a cop's mother until I'm blue in the face. It doesn't give them the right to do anything. A cop is just a fellow citizen with a badge charged with upholding the law. We have no obligation to be servile to them and no reason to listen to anything they have to say outside of what we're being charged with and how we proceed in court except in cases of flight from or being in the midst of an active crime scene. Even if you have priors, you can say whatever you like according to the Constitution.

This belief that every cop deserves to be treated like he's your dad actually makes policing more difficult. It reinforces an us/them mentality both on cops and citizens when really everyone should be in it together to make communities better and safer. Authoritarianism isn't the answer. Ever.
