check my bowl...not sure if you remember but i showed you some things i made months ago. you were nice ( like you always are) and complimented the pieces..except the whole time i was trying to make a bowl, and those things were not bowls. i nearly have it now, a bit hard to tell from the pic, but this one is cereal bowl size.

This is awesome. Care to detail the process a bit?

for sure.
i started with a 3lb blob of clay. then you plop it as close to the center of the wheel as possible
then you get your hands really wet..center the blob. then push your fingers in the middle to open it up. then you're supposed to go slow with one hand on the inside and one on the outside to drag some of the 3lbs of clay upwards and outwards to make a bowl shape. BUT...there's a foot pedal involved, so that means I have to make the wheel go top speed at all times. probably why it took me over 3 months to finally make a bowl.
it's suppose to look like this...

The description turned me on a little.

I definitely remember! That's a great bowl. Love the glaze too. Time for Lucky Charms.

I forgot about that poetry show Sweets @Sweets told us about. I'm going to have to go back and finish it.

I really wanna try something like this. Is there a certain kinda clay I should look for? And what about the curing/drying/glazing process? Is that pretty straightforward?

you should..it's a good creative outlet, therapeutic even, and fun to do.

i suggest taking a class..because that shit is NOWHERE near as easy as youtube videos make it look.

I take pottery classes at my local rec center. (cheaper than pottery studios) i buy stoneware clay in a 25lb bag...i'm a total beginner..and have no idea about the numbers on the bag..but apparently it means something to the more advance people in my class.
drying is easy..ya just wrap your pieces in plastic so it slowly dries...too fast and it might warp. but while one is drying you can be making other things.
glazing...is my least favorite part...by the time i reach that point i get impatient...and rush through that step. it's fairly easy, it's basically just painting. you can get as creative as you want with colors. not too thick though..and ya have to stop applying the glaze a fraction of an inch up from the bottom so the glass doesn't fuse to the shelf in the kiln. and be mindful that the glaze is non-toxic so it's food safe.

you'll make plenty of mistakes..but it's all good. just give those pieces away as christmas/hanukkah /bday presents.
