UFC bans Werdum troll face masks

Werdum distributed tens of thousands of masks to fans all week in Curitiba, asking them to wear it during the UFC 198 main event Saturday. However, fans weren’t allowed to enter the Arena da Baixada soccer stadium with the mask during Friday’s weigh-ins and Saturday’s event.

The UFC heavyweight champion complained about the veto while speaking to Combate TV right after the weigh-ins.

"I was doing a great campaign for the ‘happy face’. I had 45,000 (masks) done and the ‘happy face’ was vetoed at the entrance for the weigh-ins," Werdum said. "I hope it’s not vetoed tomorrow.

"I think it’s absurd, actually. I spent a lot of money, got a nice campaign to excite the crowd, people were happy, posting it on social media, and UFC comes and vetoes it. I didn’t like it, but it’s fine."

This is the dumbest shit. They've got a HW champ that isn't exactly a big draw. He goes out and spends his own money to drum up attention for himself, and the promotion...and they shit can it. This would have been great (and free) promotional video for them, Werdum, and the event...45k people wearing the masks...shown on FS1 and ESPN. They're fucking idiots sometimes.

It's the logo on the head as TER pointed out. Had it been a Reebok or nothing at all I don't think it would have been a problem. But, the UFC isn't letting anyone get free advertising on their watch.

UFC = Unimaginative Funless Cunts.

My 11 year old son traines BJJ (bros) & loosely follows MMA. The first time he noticed Werdum was cause of Werdum Face. He made me pause the screen & just kept pointing & laughing. It was really cute...

Anyway, he made sure to watch Werdum when he beat Brown on Fox & saw some of his highlights on YouTube. Now he's rooting for Werdum to win, cause of that hilarious face & his BJJ background.

My point is that you never know what will draw in a fan. Granted, Werdum should've know that the suits behind the Unimaginative Funless Cunts would've vetoed the headband. Tough lesson for him to learn.

Hopefully he wins & does it again, this time without a logo.

I can think of 2 reasons, though I'm not sure I agree with any of them.

1. The logo. They have the Reebok deal, and if this were allowed and fighters realized that they could do something like his to get around the sponsor ban, I bet a lot of fighters would do it. I wish they could do it so they would make money, but I see why the UFC chose to be dicks about it.

2. Security risk. This is going to be 45,000 people in not exactly the safest city on the planet. "The guy wearing the soccer jersey and Werdum mask" won't be a very good way to describe the guy who stole your purse.

It was my step father Tony who raised me til I was 14 that was my dad and my donor was my father Johnny cuz he wasn't around (who I ended up becoming close to)..My dad tony Passed away but would've appreciated the praise lol he was a innovative genius...would engineer crazy stuff and make up quirky phrases...i,got my creative smart ass from him
