GPB – Ray Longo and Jordan Breen | Gross Point Blank
On Josh Gross' podcast, Ray Longo was interviewed, and the topic of Douglas Crosby and the Al Iaquinta fight came up. Among other things that were said, like receiving hate mail from Douglas, the most astounding comment was that at an MMA event he told Ray Longo and Matt Serra that they were 'the most hated people in MMA'. It was also mentioned that the issue involved the courts, and court orders, over a period of 3+ years.
He should not have been judging a fight that involves one of their fighters, and since he didn't recuse himself, the commission should be, at least, reprimanding him for failing to comply with the standards that have been set forth for Judges to abide by. I don't think you can blame the commission for not knowing, since that would be a lot of work and unrealistic, but it really calls into question the judgement of a judge who won't recuse himself from a fight that clearly involves a conflict of interest.
Surely the judgement of the MMA judges should be kept as above reproach as possible, because this issue now opens up questions for how many other judges also don't recuse themselves when there is a conflict of interest, since it is clear that commissions, don't or can't, know every conflict. As well as that, if one judges judgement is poor enough to allow a situation like this to occur, what else will they bend or skirt the rules for?
