Hey everyone!

The only thing I may love more than MMA is the Dead! They are an iconic band for several reasons and while they may not be for everyone their cultural impact cannot be understated.

I'm sharing what some consider to be the best show they ever put on and there is certainly an argument that can be made for that! I will continue to add more shows to this over time for anyone who is interested in listening!

May 8, 1977 at Barton Hall in Ithaca, NY they put on an absolute scorcher with the first set highlights being Jack Straw followed by at great Deal. They close the first set with perhaps the greatest version of Dancin in the Streets.

The entire second set is the highlight with a truly classic set list of Scarlet Begonias, Fire On The Mountain, Estimated Prophet, St. Stephen, Not Fade Away, St. Stephen, Morning Dew with a One More Saturday Night encore.

If you haven't heard this I hope you dig it as much as me and if you have well then enjoy!!

This show is from the later part of the dead's run with this historic show on July 4th, 1989. This was a particularly notable show as this was the best the band had sounded in years with Jerry's struggles with health through the early-mid 80s.(Not to say they didn't sound good during but here they are firing on all cylinders). Here he is on top of his game and playing just as good as any other point in the bands history if not better.

Another notable thing to point out is the sheer joy they have during the entire show. Everyone of them has a smile on their face and seem to be really enjoying the experience.

Set 1 starts with a classic Bertha into Greatest story ever told followed by a personal favorite of mine Cold rain and snow. The real eye catcher and perfect way to close the set is one of the best and possibly most smokin' hot versions of Deal ever!

Set 2 has a little bit of everything from the Dead's catalog from Touch of Grey to playin in the band to terrapin station. It ends with a beautiful rendition of morning dew -> Not Fade Away with the classic fourth of July show closer "U.S. Blues"

Hope you all enjoy!

Today at work I am chugging my way through the Europe 72 Complete Recordings box set, which includes every show from that tour. Good stuff, and lots of it.

Hey OP and any dead fans

Local radio station here in Eugene has a show called Short Strange Trip every wednesday from 7 to 9 PM west coast US time for the last 20+ yrs....their collection of G Dead music is probably the best around

The station has no commercials, Runs on donations from the awesome Fans of the Station, Volunteers are the DJs, Some of them have been volunteer DJing for 25+ yrs( back into the G dead Heyday)

Here is a link....... Program Schedule - KRVM.org ......You can listen Live anywhere in the World

Really recommend this to all of ya

Best radio Station around IMO....2 hour blocks of pure musical gold with no commercials....only shot outs to donors(donated 75 bucks yesterday).....It is also at my Old HS and 1 mile from my house

They play tons of rare Gems from various rare albums and some great cuts from live shows.

Enjoy

Used to go the Dead Shows yearly at Autzen Staduim....the parking lot and entire City would turn into a 25,000 Deadhead strong free for all....really amazing to see...Undeniable energy and positivity followed that band

Very cool, thanks for sharing! I'll definitely check that out.

When I was high school (early 90's) there used to be a weekly Sunday night show called "The Dead Zone" on a station out of Peoria, IL. It was awesome. I have searched the webs for any trace of this but haven't found anything. Unfortunately, it seems none of it was ever archived. I'd love to go back and listen to those again, as it was a neat ritual to listen every week.

I hear the Mayer tour is awesome
From everything I have read Mayer is playing much closer to how Jerry played versus Trey and that's not to say Trey didn't do incredible because he absolutely did and given the magnitude around the shows Trey played in, it makes it that much more incredible.

Pretty epic to see Donna play with them at Bonnaroo. Is anyone going to any dead and co shows this year? They are playing in Noblesville this Friday and I am doing everything I can to get over there

There have been plenty tracks that she derailed there is no denying that but I must say when she was on, she definitely added something to the mix. Check out the St. Stephen->Not Fade Away from the very first vid of this thread. Perfect blend :D

I just found this recently:

I'm a big fan of Lowell George (songwriter/guitarist/singer for Little Feat), and the Dead brought him in to produce the Shakedown Street album. Apparently, Bobby was struggling with how he should sing Good Lovin', so they recorded an outtake version with Lowell singing so he could show Bobby what he thought it should sound like. Pretty solid!

I would recommend less hallucinogenic drugs than I took....I can't say that I remember a whole lot of details about those Deer Creek shows, but I'm sure I had a good time :D
