Speaking to MMA Junkie recently, Jones said he longer has the desire to compete at heavyweight and plans to improve his diet regime as he gets older.

"To be honest with you, heavyweight really doesn't really seem as appealing to me as it once did," he said. "I'm almost 30 now, and I'm not really having any more growth spurts," Jones said. "This is pretty much the size I'm going to be, and it's so easy for me to make light heavyweight.

"As I get older, and as I mature and take things more seriously - you know, diet and everything - it's become easier for me to maintain, and I've never missed weight."

called it.. on a post somewhere i predicted he'd decide not to pursue HW & have a few more fights in him after DC and then retire... so far half of it is true. it's not an "out of this world" prediction either, my reason is i just dont think he has that fighting sprit in him that he once had before the long layoff.

Good for him. First I think LHW is more competitive anyway. HW is still full of guys that have been a plodding away at the top most of my life. It's a weak division evidenced by Arlovski, Barnett, Nelson, Mir all being top ten despite their obvious fall from being title contenders. My guess if he ever fights HW it will be a one off champ vs champ thing. Not a prolonged run in the division.

On one hand, it would be great for him personally to retire on top, relatively unscathed physically, and financially secure. On the other hand, it will suck for us fans when he does. Love him or hate him, he's one of the few guys left in the sport that are must watch.

Stipe must seem a lot less beatable than Werdum.
This may be partially true but I actually think that a lot of it is probably based on the belt getting passed around so much. If you're going to go up and put a bit of your legacy on the line then it seems smarter to do it against someone that is going to maximize your reward. If Cain or JDS were champ and had defended the title successfully then it would make the fight more meaningful. Kind of like when GSP and Anderson were dominating their divisions.

After he fights DC and Johnson, he should i guess rematch the viking or take on a HW.

You need a couple of freakshow fights to reach legendary status.

Yeah but at least they're new matchups. If he keeps winning at LHW it's gonna get boring watching him fight the same guys until a new contender emerges.

If anything, I hope that at least a HW or two drop down if he doesn't go up.

Its easier at LHW so i dont blame him. I would do the same.
It's definitely the safer bet, seeing that he's already beaten every contender besides Rumble. If he beats DC, there's only two fights left in the division that are somewhat intriguing...Rumble & a rematch with Gus.

Don't forget he has Arlovski and Overeem in his gym. He knows how it is to face em.

He does not want to fight man his own size. Look at picture of him and Arlovski.

Will hurt his legacy if he never does. The only two times that he has fought guys his own size (OSP and Gus), he has looked far from unstoppable.

I don't think he fares well against a Stipe, Overeem or JDS at HW personally. A 205 Cormier doesn't have the KO power of these guys and is physically a much smaller man. Jones has a good chin but gets hit too much and doesn't have the power to put them away before they put him out.

Kinda a problem with the UFC weight divisions too. Not that this fight would happen but imagine Jones vs The Black Beast. Jones at his biggest probably 240, maybe 245. Derek Lewis has to cut to make 265, so let's say in cage he is 280ish. 40 pounds... and on stupid street it looks like 75 pounds.

I aint fussed if a GOAT doesnt change division. The LHW division is also still deep enough that there are fights I want to see.

1. Jones isn't a fucking HW, he's tall that's a very different thing.
2 USADA Jones is never going to compete at HW so we'd be best to move on.

If he loses to DC, then he'll eventually move up to heavyweight. Both Rumble and DC have fought and won at Heavyweight, and if Jones loses to one of these guys then he knows that any talk of where he ranks among the greats will come down to whether he ever challenged himself by moving up. If Jones continues to dominate at 205, then he'll probably stay there until he "retires", similar to what GSP did.
