I glorified the guy - and I do use the word "glorify" because he changed his tune later on - due to what ndnh said above. Everyone says this in private conversations, but say it in public and it's a cardinal sin. You're fine if your kid learns the words motherfucker, bum, bitch, son of a bitch, whore and others, but you take great care so that the word faggot is excluded from your kid's vocabulary. This is not trying to make your kid ethical at all.
Either we should condemn profanity and punish all fighters who use any sort of demeaning term, or just let it go altogether. You can't listen to McGregor insult people who don't have enough money and laugh about it and on the flipside listen to Cerrone or Mitrione say something about faggots and condemn / punish them.

If everyone who is called a motherfucker, bum, son of a bitch, whore and others get together and say "Listen, that represents something really awful to me, and reminds me of a time where I'd be beaten or killed just for being myself. I don't want to be called that anymore" then sure we can add those to the list too, but until then don't try to compare them they aren't at all the same.

No one condones beating or killing gay people, that's common sense. What you refer to is actually bullying. And all the terms I mentioned above are used in bulllying as well. It's as much if not more probable someone hearing the phrase "Hey pussy, I'll literally kill you" to be reminded of a time being bullied or beaten as a gay person hearing the word faggot. So let's stop using double-standards.

Yes I can, I find the word motherfucker much more insulting actually. Someone's mother for me is something sacred. I know that in the us it has sort of an altered meaning, after using it for anything, but for me the word mother is something I wouldn't play with. Different cultures, so I understand if you don't get it.

There's not really a direct translation for it, so no one really uses this here. The most common word for profanity translates to something like wanker or jerk.

I see. I remember GSP got really upset with Nick Diaz during the media call for their fight because Nick called him a motherfucker and Pierre thought he literally meant "person who fucks his own mother." Apparently French doesn't have a direct translation for it either.
Anyway in English I don't know if it ever literally meant "person who fucks mothers" but I don't think so. I'd have to check the etymology of the term. But at least in my lifetime, it's never been used as a derogatory term for a certain group in society.
