(UPDATED on 7/20/16 at 1:40 p.m. ET to clarify GHRP-6 itself isn’t a growth hormone and instead encourages the body to increase growth hormone production.)

USADA officials today announced three-time UFC featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes has been given a two-year suspension after failing a drug test related to a growth hormone.

Mendes (17-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) was tested out-of-competition via a urine sample on May 17 and came back positive for GHRP-6, or growth hormone-releasing Hexapeptide, according to the website for the UFC’s anti-doping partner.

GHRP-6 is classified under the substance category of peptide hormones, growth factors, related substances and mimetics, and it is banned year-round by WADA, to which USADA is a signatory.

Per USADA, the standard sanction for an anti-doping policy violation involving a non-specified substance is a two-year period of ineligibility. Mendes also has been “disqualified from all competitive results obtained on and subsequent to May 17, 2016, the date of sample collection, including forfeiture of any title, ranking, purse or other compensation.”

No shocker here after his response to the news, but Chad Mendes has been given a 2-year suspension after testing positive for HGH. This is per Jeremy Botter.

EDIT: Actually looks like mmafighting.com got it first.

SECOND EDIT: Apparently it was for growth hormone peptides, which is different than just HGH. Botter strikes again.

Normally I wouldn't trust Botter but he was right last time on something I can't remember.

And yeah I think that's the automatic punishment for HGH, whereas the stuff Brock and Jon tested for only has a 1-year maximum

Is that 1-year max thing true? I believe you, I just haven't heard it anywhere.

Yeah Botter really screwed the pooch with the BJ thing. He got the UFC sale thing right, and he tends to get little stuff like this correct. I edited it to include mmafighting.com because they are more reputable to the community.

I'm still not. The jurys out and the data just isn't there yet. They might be a panacea but we dont know..

I bet hes on well more than that. When these guys get popped for one thing I always assume that's just what came up.

Mma junkie fucked it up and said it was growth hormone too

UFC's Chad Mendes receives 2-year USADA suspension (Updated)

Pitbull9 @Pitbull3744 what is GHRC-6 (hexapeptide) and how effective is it?
It is almost like HGH but not artificial. It stimulate Ghrelin receptors (Like a peptide hormone) to the pituatary glands to stimulate GH. So its not an artificial GH but something that stimulates it naturally in your body. Not very potent so i dont see why he did it. Effects are minimal.

Have you ever taken it?
Never. I was never taught proper post cycle therapy when i tried gear when i was younger and it fucked me up and is why im on TRT now. Either way im glad i never did that stuff. I did do some HCG but i didnt do it right. You live you learn.

i may or may not have known a guy who has taken it for 6 months. went from ~450 to 675 total test and ~9 free test 13. a blood test before, one after 3 months, one after 6 months. felt better. but he is looking to work with a doctor and do real trt now. 10mg each day. there is a good amount of bro science and real studies out there.

The thought just hit me, Pitbull9 @Pitbull3744 @Splinty in between cycles or while in a cycle or off-cycle or something, could you actually feel worse when you stop abruptly or something?

I mean, when he took the fight against Conor on short notice, and they talked about him 'rolling of the couch', maybe he had to make a full-stop to a cycle or whatever as well, could that have been a problem? Hormonal imbalance n shit?

Sure. Its always better to taper off something then to go cold turkey especially with these types of drugs.

Not that i am going to look for right now but these drugs in general can cause problems like that.
ok if you ever come across one i'd like to see it. i did a lot of research on it and couldn't find anything solid. there have been many cases of doctors prescribing clomid for low t off label i would think there would be more info if something as serious as cancer was a side effect.
