Mendes breaks his silence about his two year suspension for GHRP-6, saying that a skin care product he used contained the banned ingredient.

Chad Mendes broke his silence today about his positive drug test that resulted in a 2 year suspension. The top ranked UFC Featherweight tested positive for GHRP-6, a peptide on USADA’s banned substance list.

"It was GHRP-6. Before all this stuff came out I had no idea what that was. I don’t even know what that is and I started doing a bunch of research. This isn’t even a steroid, it’s a peptide. It’s basically an anti-aging type peptide," Mendes told KHTK Radio today.

As to why Mendes was taking GHRP-6, Bloody Elbow’s Nick Baldwin reported last week that the banned substance was in a skin cream that Mendes was using to treat a skin condition.…

So there are skin creams/topical treatments that have steroids and obviously some don't. It seems strange that it would have growth hormone peptides as the idea is to slow the growth of the skin cells that cause the psoriasis issues. But how the hormones would actually work are way above my pay grade.

That's a new one though.

If there's some sort of roid in certain skin creams then there would be a few nerdy kids that would be straight up jacked and have 2ft long dicks from jerking off with it.

I call bullshit.

Clown show MMA journalism rears its head again by insinuating that Mendes 'confirmed' a 'report' when the initial 'report' was just based on the same claim from the same camp. They are stating likely bullshit claims as fact and confusing the repetition of the same claim with verification or corroboration of a fact. Disgraceful by Bloody Elbow.

GHRP-6 is not approved for medical use and would not be found in any skin cream prescribed by a doctor. If it was in any tainted cream, Mendes could have brought the cream in for testing like Romero or Means and got 6 months. He got 2 years, because he made it up.

That's bad journalism. There is no confirmation, he claims it, but it's hardly proven.

Edit: not surprised it's Michael Hutchinson

Self medicating.
This isn't any reasonable treatment a doctor chose.

So its all BS.

And if he is the least lucky person in the world, let it be a lesson ONCE AGAIN, to professional athletes to quit dicking around with worthless supplements -- oral and topical.

Luke Thomas has been talking to a pharmacist who also claims to have never heard of it in one of these creams. Again, not proof, but the pharmacist claims it wouldn't even help.

They are purely in snake oil online creams. I call BS, but lets say its true. You'd have to go off the radar just to find one. If you have psoriasis so bad you'll hit up a rheumatologist/dermatologist and be put on something like humira. If not as serious, you get creams that aren't illegal.

Anyone ever seen a single plaque on Chad?

Psoriasis is pretty visible, you would see it on the joints of his elbows and knees if it warranted a cream.....

GHRP-6 is the same drug A-Rod was using, it is the same drug used to dope professional Rugby and Aussie Rules players in Australia, it is the same drug used by body builders and dopers everywhere.

This has nothing to do with carelessness and everything to do with the fact that most athletes, especially the ones who look like cartoon characters like Chad Mendes, deliberately take performance enhancing drugs.

This unfortunately has been part of my (ahem) diet for the last 12 months.

Should I get tested?
