If I were weigh in on this, I would say go with the two stroke. They are lighter and cost a fraction of the 4 stroke to rebuild. I have an 06' CRF 450R. I ride northern Ontario on the OFSC trails. If I were get another bike, it would likely be the CRF___X model. It is a trail version of the R. Much easier to handle on single track.
Good info and agree with most of it. I loved my CRFX, one of the best bikes I've ever riden. Problem was it wasn't suited for the tight trails I enjoy so all the power was a waste really.

Two strokes are definitely lighter and cost less to maintain but there's a few draw backs which lead me to buy the WRF. Main one being if I were to look to buy a two stroke trail bike like a KTM 300 it would be out of my current price range, bikes amazing from all I've heard. If I were to try and build a race bike into a woods bike it would get costly again but also I like a bit of weight for plowing over roots and shit, I've read some guys feel race bikes get bounced around too much. Also I love an E-start. Too many times I've dumped my bike down mid hill climb or in many other super shitty spots and without the magic button I'd be fucked. The last ride I had my 450 I had to take a knee twice after crashing, picking it up and fighting to get it to the top, that was when I decided to sell and get a 250.

I hope to ride my WR for 2-3 seasons then sell and grab a newer 2 stroke trail bike with the button.

Good post! I agree with a Ktm as the best choice for a modern 2smoker...or a Gas Gas or a Beta...those are basically the only companies improving the 2 stroke tech in dirt bikes. Any one of those will lug through the tight stuff as good as any 4stroke and flat out rip the open stuff. 200-300cc 2 stroke is the perfect do everything trail bike. You give up a bit of torque, but if you ride a 2smoker on the pipe like it's supposed to, that's a non issue.

God damn my dick is hard just talking about it.

That being said the Wr is a great bike and so much fun in its own right.

My buddy bought a TM125EN and it's a beauty. He's like 5'11" and 160lbs or something so he quick on it. I loving the Yamaha now bit can't wait to get a Euro 2 stroke in the future.

Go buy another bike!

I want to so bad!! I bought a class b that I'm retrofitting it in to an adventure mobile and the plan is to eventually travel full time beginning the end of this year, first of next at the latest.I built a "garage" area to haul my bicycles and tools and I will hopefully be able to buy a new dirt bike once I'm done and throw it on a hitch hauler. I've dropped some serious cash in the van so I will be 100% solar and completely self sufficient. So I have to wait till I finish it up to start saving for a bike.

Requirements and a general lack of trail systems have strangled the sport. I head up a couple of hours north of Toronto and can ride for days without ever seeing another rider. The trails are free and give a great variety between logging roads and snowmobile trails

Here in Kelowna the trails I ride costs $80 annually but it's worth it. All trails are marker like a ski hill with numbers, colours for level of difficulty, well maintained and I could ride for months and not do the same route twice. I think this is the first year BC has actually enforcement on bike being registered. Cost me another $80 for decal and then $45 for a $200,000 liability coverage.

Fuck man good for you. You ever read my thread about our RV trip last year? We planned on going for a year but the lady who rented out our house got herself murdered so we returned after a little over 8 months. We did 26 states I think along with lots of BC, made it all the way down to Key West :) from BCs west coast.

I read the first bit, but then I had to go off grid for work for a few months and only checked in on tmmac sporadically. It's actually on my to do list of threads to catch up on...murdered? Now it's at the top of my list.

I stopped posting about 3/4 way through I it bece a pain in the ass. We would do so much in a two week span I couldn't remember enough and it would take forever to keep things up to date.

Yeah I'm terrible at recording or keeping a diary on anything I do. I don't know how these folks record these travel vlogs on YouTube. I enjoy watching but screw that hassle involved. On my class b for example, I planned on taking before and afters of every step, but I find myself constantly mid deconstruction before remembering. Lol

I pay for gas, oil and insurance. I said fuck that to the bullshit government cash grabs like a green plate and trail passes. Here in Ontario they don't do trail maintenance for dirtbike trails.

That's too bad. Bear Creek trail system is the best riding I've experienced.

I was in Cranbrook a few years back (family funeral) the relatives took us out 4 wheeling in an area they were logging. Thinking about it...would be good times to ride the dirtbikes through those areas

Cranbrook is nice, I think that's where L @HodorIsBAE lives and it's great terrain.

I rode in Georgia last year at a sweet placed called Durham Town.

Durhamtown Off Road Resort

They call it the Disneyland for dirt bikes. They have everything and more that you can imagine. They have a couple fully sanctioned tracks, even more fully groomed short tracks in the bush just of the trail systems, a dirt 1/4 with Christmas tree for dragging, mud pits, bowls, RV sites, fleets of rentals bikes and quads, BBQ pit, hill climb and more.

All of it was super impressive but the natural terrian really holds it back for me who is lucky to live in the Rockies. At lunch a local gave me directions to the "hill climb" area. After riding around in circles a bit I realized I was on top of it, what they designate a hill climb is literally a normal green trail where I ride. But again, the place is awesome for where it at.

La Paix @Kelly. If you do ride logging roads, I'll provide some words of wisdom from a fool. Don't punch it too hard around a corner.
or you'll end up like this

It hurt my ego and pride more than body. I'm a pudgy fucker, so my fat bits absorbed alot of the impact, just left alot of bruising. The buddies I was out with have named me "wild man willy"

You would correct. Cranbrook is small but it's the best place to live.

La Paix @Kelly some 2017 jack material...

Gas Gas EC300

Beta 300RR

KTM 300EXC

I love how the Euros are still developing 2strokes. The shop near my place deals KTM and usially have 2-3 tear old models in great shape for $5000-$8000 CA, the goal is to get into one in about 2-3 years. If I can continue to get out riding at least 3 times a month from March to October then I can justify the money.
