Don't care before I get the full story. Sorry.
Whole sport is going TMZ before the facts are in, mostly because Jones is universally disliked. I can't help but think about all the excuses that would exist if his last name were Sonnen.

There are better places to spend time bashing Jones, imo.
The evidence is pretty damning at this point. If this was a case of mistaken identity, Jones and camp would have made an immediate statement.

Jon Jones: 'I was always the kid that snitched' - Five Ounces of Pain

Jon Jones: ‘I was always the kid that snitched’

December 4, 2009

As a kid I was never popular,” admitted “Bones” in a recent conversation with Sherdog.com. “I was always kind of just nice to everyone. I don’t know. It was always about me and my brothers growing up. My parents kept us pretty sheltered. We were never allowed to spend the night at our friends’ house, not once. We were always taught to take care of our family and do the right things.”

In Jones eyes, doing the right thing definitely included spilling the beans anytime he witnessed anything he judged to be wrong as an adolescent.

“I’ve always been a person who tries to do the right thing in life, for the most part,” said Jones. “I’m no angel, but I was always the kid who snitched on the kids who had pot. I don’t want to offend the pot smokers out there, but I was kind of just a snitch. I was just down for people doing the right thing. My parents kind of raised me to be a good guy. I’ve always been down for the good side, I guess.

Seems Jon has really been reading his Bible. I found several relevant verses to recent events.

"No testing has overtaken you that is not common to everyone. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it."- 1 Corinthians 10:13

"But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."-Isaiah 40:31

I'm just waiting for the full-length story to form an opinion about what I think on it. All we're seeing are piece-meal segments of it coming out and people reacting to it. When Jones has his say I'll have an opinion.

That's fair but it's natural for us to react when these details come out. I understand your point in that this isn't "fight related" unless the fight gets scrapped but this is a big story given Jon's history.

SNIDELY WHIPLASH @ABE FROMAN i agree that the jbj hate wins strong in the mma community. I think he's a great fighter. I also think that anyone - ANYONE - who takes the lives of others and gambles with them by driving dui is a piece of shit.

Soap box time bitches:
My father was 49 years old when some fucked up 19 year old punk took his life. I notice in all this not many people have expressed a lot of concern for the fucking pregnant woman he allegedly might have injured. Please everyone that sees my words, I'm pleading with you. Please do not drive under the influence.
~End rant

Did they issue an arrest warrant yet? Or is he still a person of interest? It's absurd him or his lawyers wouldn't contact police by now unless they are plotting on how to fix this shit
They issued a summons and he has 4 weeks to respond otherwise a warrant will be issued.

I don't see damning this dangerous behavior as just 'bashing' him, nor do I see it as separate from the sport when it has a clear impact on the sport.
I hear this all the time -- Jordan was an asshole, Jones does drugs, but who cares..."I only care about the fight!". I disagree strongly.

This is fine if that is your life and your opinion, but also totally unnecessary to continue preach to others. And if it is necessary to state it, its rather unfair to ascribe the rest of our interest to being on the same level as Kim Kardashian taking selfies...

The entirety of ALL SPORT for ALL TIME has been built on a tribalism that requires a personal attachment to the player or team.
I would say you are missing out on life if you turn the TV off when Cro Cop cried at the OWGP belt, if you don't get excited about rivalry, if you don't feel some connection to watching a fighter overcome life. Hey the fight was over. Why are you watching the speech at the end? But we love the speech! We love the humble underdog! It is the exception to the rule that says otherwise.

Why is MMA so amazing? It's not because of the fight alone. Its the metaphor for life. Its 15-25 minutes, but its a culmination of months and years of effort. It's a human chess match with the penalty of pain for mistakes. Its a mental and physical grind analogous to any number of tangible and intangible challenges in life

These individuals have sponsors. This sponorship has direct and indirect links to the entire fate of the entire sport. It isn't just about them. It's about the greater sport. It's about the survival of a brand and path so that younger fighters aren't working UPS while training. This is how you get the greatest fights/fighters in the history of mankind. They must be able to focus on it. Cocaine, crime, ridiculous behavior endangers what we all hold dear. It makes a mockery of the efforts of others. Sometimes things like drug use impact the fight by altering body and mind of the fighters

So I'll just say I take some real umbrage with the idea that my emotional investment beyond the cut and dry punches that happen in a 15 minutes span is the same as a paparazzi with telephoto lens looking for skimpy bikini shots of this years starlett.

Home fucking run @Splinty . I share all those values about the great things that surround the fighters outside the of the fights, you just expressed it perfectly.

Hmmmm.....rather than reply with the obvious 'I've been here since the beginning, I've trained, interviewed, worked in, attended and watched pretty much every event out there', I'm just going to say that everybody deserves their day in court and reacting to literally pieces of a story as they come out isn't my style. MMA is one center of my complex universe, thus seeing the reaction by Twitter, boards, social media and elsewhere is nothing less than TMZ. I'm sorry if you see yourself singled out in a comment made about the general reaction to these stories but that's not really my problem or issue. I'm going to let Jones say what he has to say and if I think it's stupid then I'll call it stupid then. I won't be going along with the bandwagon even if it 'looks pretty bad'. It'll look bad when he opens his mouth.....or possibly not.

I'll wait and see.

I rectify my judgements by weighing the scales when I get 2 sides of it, and I'll call something shitty when I see the whole turd.

Oh, I get that he denies it. But the denial is disingenuous IMO. I understand he doesn't work for a news agency, but in every other respect what he does is reporting, and calling it "entertainment" is just a convenient way to dodge ethical responsibilities.

I do understand that social media seemingly creates this opportunity for "entertainment" that wasn't there before the internet, and that what some people do on twitter, etc. will fall under this category. But it's clear that FRB is always looking for stories and looking to break them first. And he has conflicted feelings about what he does---otherwise he would never backtrack or apologize or take any responsibility at all. But he DOES from time to time---exactly the way a reporter would do.
I see FRB as more of a National Enquirer kind of deal. He uses his network to get some insider information chatter. I think when he posts rumours some of the other actual mma new outlets see if there is some truth to said rumour. I think he doesnt call himself a journalist because his information is pretty rough and he doesnt actually write for any site. Just a dude tweeting what hes heard.

I can respect that, but it's much easier to play devil's advocate with Jones considering his actions in the past.

What if the cop that wrote that report is just a racist and thinks all black men look a like (and has money on rumble)?

Then poor Jon wakes up like Kimo learning he died.

Wed all feel like real assholes.

SNIDELY WHIPLASH @ABE FROMAN kudos to you for taking the high road here, seriously. For me seeing a police report is not the end all but it is quite good at detailing what's gone on up to this point.

I'm not sitting rubbing my hands together at Jon possibly getting in serious trouble but more like scratching my head as to how a young, famous and talented man can keep getting in the news for mistakes that I would deem easily avoidable. He has to know that anybody in position has so many eyes on him and with every negative report, which have been quite a few, the amount of eyes increase. Why can't he seem do keep his shit together? And the biggest contributor to those who have decided to not be a fan of him outside the cage is him saying one thing and doing the other, not going to bother to post them all.

I'm majorly disappointed in what I see so far, and am not of the opinion he's going to say something to totally vindicate himself. That being said, I ALWAYS want to know someone's motivations, fears and thoughts before I take a shit on their life. I am more disappointed in him wasting all of these things he's earned than probably most out there, who ARE in fact rubbing their hands at this. So yea, I want to hear him say he fucked up or that he had some kind of logic behind his actions.

When I hear that I'll pipe right on up.

The Enquirer has been sued many times, and is looked down on by any legitimate news agency or journalist. And yet they do break news, in fact, have broke(n?) lots of huge stories over the decades. But nobody respects them because they're unethical. They've got the obviously pure entertainment side, all that Jesus in the Toaster and Tony Blair is a Lizard King stuff. But then they mix that up with genuine attempts to get scoop real stories, and the entertainment side doesn't get them off the hook.

I'd agree with the "just a dude tweeting what he's heard" if he didn't tweet so often and with such obvious attempt to scoop. I mean if he did this a couple of times a year, then no, I wouldn't categorize him as a reporter. But his presence and activities in the MMA world is obviously skewed towards news reporting. He's got his ear to the ground for a reason. What he's doing is more than just happenstance gathering of gossip.

When you really look at what he's doing, it overlaps so well with what we ordinarily call reporting.
