It's set up that way so everyone gets representation. If it wasn't, farmers in North Dakota where like 58 people live wouldn't get a say in any of this stuff. It's still heavily swayed towards the more popular states, but it's set up the way it is in an attempt to be as fair as possible from people of all walks of life.

I don't think this is what i call fair when you ignore votes of a majority to favor less people.
Farmers in north dakota would have the same vote as someone in say cali, if you counted every vote as one.

Yet, in some ways a farmer in North Dakota living and farming on 150 acres does more for America than all 300 people living in a single city block in Manhattan. He deserves a voice, and not necessarily at a 1:1 ratio.
