I understand the complaints about "whitewashing" but me and ScarJo go way back and it looks cool.

Full disclosure, I've never read the comics or watched the movies so I have nothing to base an opinion on.

Other than I love Scarlett Johansson and fully support everything she does.
Yes that includes her singing as well.

Renoylds done fucked up.

The original was ok, but weird. I saw it had a series and multiple other movies.

I haven't watched a lot of anime in many years. Last new series i loved was samurai champloo.

S @Just Dave The original Ghost in the Shell is one of my all-time favorite movies and I believe has crossover appeal if you're not an anime fan, although it helps if you are. The sequel is also really good (Innocence). The remake looks really good- I like the director and it looks like they changed her motivation from the original, which is probably a good thing for the American audience.

Everyone speaks fondly of the original so I'll probably wait and watch after the new one.

I love the visuals in the trailer. Nice style to it. Hopefully the movie doesn't suck - I'll check it out.

I've never seen Akira either.
Great animation (especially for it's time) cool premise, weird ending.

It seems that the japanese are highly opposed to satisfying endings. Kinda why i stopped watching anime. Felt like i'd go through a series or movie and the "resolutions" would fall flat.

It's certainly anti-hollywood. But that is the reason why I like Japanese cinema.

I don't think i've ever heard that term before. What do you mean when you say "anti-hollywood"?
Hollywood, the hero wins, makes love with love interest, overcomes evil, and walks off. Unless Quentin Tarantino. But he is influenced heavily by watching Asian movies.

I'm sure I am over simplifying it, but Hollywood (non indie) is about the box-offcie, turns movies into PG versions, etc, etc.

A movie that so so not Hollywood, for instance...

I could point out a whole bunch, but that would be all spoilers.

I do not know about the Hollywood version though, if they kept the same shit. Anyone who watched them both?

I haven't watched either.

I don't need a happy ending, but i certainly like more resolution.

Ex: Neon Genesis Evangelion

What in the fucking fuck was with that steaming pile of an ending?

Another one: Desert Punk

Decent series, deflating ending.

I haven't watched the original in a long time but I believe the main reveal of the ending is the same.

Ninja Scroll and the Animatrix, if that counts, are pretty much my extent of anime movies I've seen.

I guess I could add Batman: Gotham Knight too.
