Palhares has something to say to Jake Shields | LUBMMA

WSOF Champion Rousimar Palhares caught wind of Jake shields recent interview and has some words of his own for Shields.

“I don’t know how you come to think in this way about me considering we have never even actually met, But I get it – you want to make yourself the hero who submits the bad guy! No hard feelings. You need to justify yourself, and you should certainly talk it up now, because after the fight, I guess there won’t be much that you will want to talk about!”

“And listen, if I do end up hurting you, it won’t be because I hate you. It’s just because this is MMA, and people don’t tap – like you probably won’t – until they are hurt! So guess what? I’ll give you a rematch in Metamoris if they will have us, and you can try again to defend my ankle and leg locks”.

“Different then you, I have nothing bad to say about you. I will come into this fight, as I come into all of them, with respect for my opponent and wanting to win as fast and as definitively as I can. I look forward to seeing you Jake, and shaking your hand – or rather your foot!”

I don't think it is very classy to say people don't tap until they are hurt, when you have held onto subs multiple times in the past when someone has tapped. Even forcing the ref to physically pull you off.

He gives me straight psychopath vibe.
I think he zones out when in competition, and just isn't very bright. I don't think it is malicious, since it has hurt him more than it has helped him. Any psychopath would look out for their interests better, or at least try to hide their intent. Whereas, I truly believe, Paul Harris is sitting somewhere in Brazil, right now, still puzzling over why he got cut from the UFC.

Well that's true, but he's also taken some unwarranted heat as well. Some of those subs he let go milliseconds after the ref touched him, and still caught shit for it. And he is being pretty civil in this response to Detective Shields :D

Or, perhaps it was worth it to him to feel all those ligaments and tendons break?

His win over Tomasz Drwal was bad. Going from memory the ref was tugging at the arms to get him to let go. Here I've found the gif.

He has a reputation for a reason. Any smart man would have understood that and made adjustments. By looking at the ref when cranking for example. Paul Harris didn't even try to change things, still closes his eyes and cranks away.

Oh, I dont disagree. He's lost his damn mind in there on some occasions. But he's also been criticized when he let go of subs at appropriate times as well.

Maybe, but that was always going to be the case with his history. If he was smart he could have avoided that controversy. It is like that saying, if you meet one arsehole in a day, fine, just get on with your day. If you meet 2 arseholes in a day, you're having a bad day for sure. But if everyone you meet is an arsehole, you're the arsehole.

No doubt he's brought in on himself. I'm just not going to crucify him for instances when he played by the rules...but I'll gladly admit and comment when he doesn't either. Hopefully something has clicked with him, and he knows when to shut it off now.

I think malice can be compulsive rather than useful. Irresistible, maybe, for many fighters, especially in the adrenaline fog of fighting-- you can see guys zone out all the time, make insane and vicious decisions, totally agree. But I see real, special sadism in ol' Paul-- and a craftiness, too. I think he does try to hide his intent, and probably tries to maintain his interests, but isn't a very sophisticated psychopath.

I do agree that he has no idea why he was cut!

Guy is a few sandwiches short of a picnic. He's terrible for the sport of MMA and sub grappling. Either his IQ is very low or he's a vindictive arsehole. Either way I hope Detective Shields beats him.
