Listening too doesn't equal reading.
Sometimes better. Sometimes worse. The narrators choice of volume, pacing, and emotion can impact how a listener intetprets the plot vs how he or she would have if he or she had read it.

But the narrator for this one was pretty good. I think my lack of enjoyment stemmed from the plot revolving around a twist, and having already seen the movie, I knew the twist

I read Tom perlotta's (sp?) "The leftovers" and believe that I may not have enjoyed that book for the same reason (I had already seen seasons 1 and 2 of the show on HBO)

Reading David and Goliath from Malcom Gladwell. Really good book about people who have defied odds to reach great achievement.

I've got a couple books on deck, including Ego is the Enemy.

Going to start Saga.
I only have access to the first volume in Comixology Unlimited.
I hope I like it, so I can justify finding everything else.
Apparently, it's right up my alley.

Unsure in what way you mean that they're not equal.
In terms of cognitive psychology, they're the same. Your brain is using the same mental processes when both reading and listening.
There's no research out there at the moment to support readers remembering more of a story, or getting more out of reading a book, or anything of that nature as opposed to listening.

Now, some find that they get distracted more easily when listening to an audiobook, and that can alter affect their enjoyment of the book I suppose. But that's really down to individual preferences

Listening as opposed to reading can give the story an extra dimension, if the story is read well, with good use of tone, and pause. With reading you can go your own tempo, or re-read a part that didn't get through. It is both just dowloading data into the brain and the process differs greatly from person to person.

I'd say reading does take more focus for me. I feel like if I have read a book, it's more of an accomplishment, than having listened to one. I prefer both.

It's one of the best books on comic shelves. If you like sci-fi/fantasy give Seven to Eternity a try. It's only 3 issues in so a trade won't be out for a few months but Rick Remender is pumping out the most consistently great original content.

I get really distracted while audiobooking. Mostly because I do it during my commute to work and I tend to drift off in thought. So I have to spend just a little more effort on focus with audiobooks to stay engaged. But that's probably just my ADD kicking in.

And whether you are driving or not. That is a factor as well. I drive while listening, but part of my focus goes towards operating a vehicle. I only choose to listen when I absolutely cannot read. I do tend to drift off, but it's more the distraction, than my losing focus that is the cause.

I already know the artwork is beautiful. My friends know how much I love Sexy Crimz, so they told me to read Saga.

Also. How are you? I wasn't just thinking I haven't seen you in a bit.

Yes Sex Criminals is quite good though their release schedule is lacking.

I'm alright. Taking some time to myself so I haven't been around as much. Thanks for asking!

The releases are KILLING me. The next release is April, that's a FULL year between. What happened to bi-monthly, Matt?!

Audibled "the fellowship of the ring." I usually audible stuff as a "re-reads" at 1.6x-2.2x. But since I read this book back in the early 90s, I wanted to take it slowly, so I listened to all 19 hours at 1x

Was a good story. I plan on renting the movie tonight to see where it was the same or differed from the book. I don't recall Tom bombadil from the movie. I think a lot of the other major plot points hold true, with the movie occaisonally condenscing two things into 1 for the sake of time.

Hopefully I'll convince myself to get to the doctor early next week to figure out what's up with my shoulder. Bc I need to get back out on the slopes. And I'm halfway through the "paths of darkness" trilogy, which is significantly better than the lame quartet before it. So I want to get my arm back so I can finish that bad boy

You are correct. Tom Bombadil was not in the movie.
Another difference was in the book Frodo didn't leave on his adventure until 17 years! after getting the ring from Bilbo whereas the movie it was..perhaps days? I don't quite remember the movie

Interesting. Are u Cofident on that 17 years part? I did get the impression that it was not as quick a turnaround in the book. But I thought he prctastinated a couple months. I vaguely recall him saying something like "I wanna he here for fall or fall is a good time to leave."

If it was 17 years, then it went completely over my head. 17 years would also be Confusing as far as gandalf. Bc when they all come together at rivendell, gandalf speaks about how he tried circling back to them, but then decided it would be too hard to find them out in the woods, so he headed to rivendell to meet up there (and to distract some of the nazgul. The latter point ended up potentially saving the day since there were only 5 nazgul when they attacked the camp instead of all 9

I guess what I'm getting at is that gandalf claiming that he attempted to distract some of the nazgul from the hunt of Frodo seems strange is it was 17 years later lol

EDIT: nm, i got it now. read chapter 1 summary. gandalf came. bilbo left. then came back 17 years later, now knowing that the ring was the one to rule them all. set a plan in motion. left, and frodo left a couple months after

im with u know. thanks for the heads up!

Let me know if you can't find it. I have a digital version I can share.
Oh, please! I don't have PC access right now.

No problem. Let me know when you get your PC going and I'll figure out a way to get it to you.

I have the issues and collected edition of chrononauts but no digital unfortunately. I'll see if I can round one up.

Saga is so good. I'm jealous you're just getting started. There's lots more to go. Enjoy the ride!
