Goat is a stupid argument
Nearly all Elite fighters had primes where they were nearly unbeatable and amazing to watch...They were all top of the sport for a moment or stretch of time.
DC is one of the best to ever do it....He has dominated 205 and only lost a decision which was mostly wrist control and low power strikes with little damage done.
DC owned HWs and that is something Nobody has done at his size other than Fedor for a stretch of his prime....No 205 has had the success with heavy MMA guys like DC and that says a lot about where he sits in history.
205 has probably almost 10 guys who had amazing runs that ended for whatever reason(peds, injuries, chin got diminished, etc)...they all deserve respect IMO.

Either way it's MMA which involves grappling and DC has some of the best slams going. 13 fights at HW and only 5 went the distance.

Can pinpoint the exact moment he rustled my jimmies. Was that obnoxious nod after he choked out Johnson the first time. Just lost to Jones and started his "Ya aint a fighter Jon!" schtick. I proceeded to then latch firmly onto Jon's nuts, until of course he wins the title, and will promptly find another hugless pair to latch to. Resident Nomad Nuthugger style.

People talked up Anthony Johnson like he could beat Jones, and DC has beaten him twice. I don't think he'll ever be in the goat discussion, but I think he should be up there if he beats Jones.
Rumble could beat JJ...but he retired
I may be in the minority here but I think DC is already top 10 of all time. I don't think beating Jones puts him in the discussion of possibly being the #1 ever though if that's what you're asking.

DC does belong in all time conversations due to his performance at HW and LHW as well as for beating Anderson.
There are 2 guys responsible for the lack of respect he gets: Cain Velasquez and Jon Jones.
Had Cain not cockblocked DC from HW he could have continued his run in the UFC against quality comp. His HW title feels like a paper championship because he only advanced in that Grand Prix as an alternate when Reem dropped out. He beat some decent HWs, but all when they were in serious decline following stricter PED testing. He never faced that younger breed of HWs due to Cain.
He then moved to LHW and ran into Jones and frankly got embarassed. After so much smack talk Jones ended up being better at literally everything, including wrestling. Now he has this current paper title. Even if he does get a victory over Jones, he is MMA's Joe Frazier; talented, but unable to shake being king of the best of the rest.
