Sad times.
"Hughes crossed the railroad tracks directly in front of a train and the train struck the passenger side of the truck. "Well this sucks.
How does a truck collide with a train? The wording is interesting. Not train collides with truck...
Nah man, these are the times when we as a community should be posting them even more IMO.He didn't die... Chill the highlights
"Hughes crossed the railroad tracks directly in front of a train and the train struck the passenger side of the truck. "
usually when a vehicle strikes a train it's because they thought they could beat the train and slammed on the brakes too late.
I have a couple family members who work for BNSF, my cousin's husband is an engineer. It's possible that the crossing has overgrown vegetation, or that a railroad cars were parked on the opposite track too close to the crossing. They're supposed to park railroad cars some certain distance from the crossing, but stopping those trains isn't an exact science. And the crossing is where the crew gets picked up, so they tend to error on the side of not walking further. And the railroad is supposed to maintain the vegetation, but they come through once a year (at best) and cut everything back.
Both of those are fairly common causes of car/train collisions.
Was the train derailed or stop in any way? I might have missed that...It will be interesting to see what happened. There are only a few around here that have just the RRXX signs with no lights. But usually the train blasts their horn for a long time. But I guess if music is blaring you can't here it. There were also more than a few times the lights didn't work-or they keep going off enough that people ignore them. At least here, it is pretty clear either way to see if something is coming. But if it's not, I usually slow down pretty good. Who knows. Double or triple tracks might be another story. I can totally see some apparatus not working-but again they will be blasting their horn. I dunno... Just want to hear more details about the crossing.
I don't think any details are out yet.Was the train derailed or stop in any way? I might have missed that...
Nope and that's the scary part. You would think that if he were making progress, the family would have released some sort of statement.Any new news on Hughes condition?
Yeah that's pretty crazy, hoping for the best ..but definitely not a good sign.Nope and that's the scary part. You would think that if he were making progress, the family would have released some sort of statement.
