UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes was forced out of her UFC 213 title showdown against Valentina Shevchenko at the eleventh hour when she was taken to hospital after falling ill on Saturday morning.

Through her Instagram account, Nunes revealed that she had to pullout of the contest due to a re-occurring issue with sinusitis, caused by an inflammation or swelling of the tissue lining the sinuses.

She really needs a better hairstyle. No one is going to take her side with that shit.

Plus... As much as it would have sucked and killed her cardio many people will interpret this as her having a stuffy nose and wanting to stay in bed and have some chicken soup until mommy says she's better and can go play with her friends.

It would have sucked and could have definitely led to her losing if she fought. Now she's still the champ and has a better chance at defending once this is re-booked. Of course, she's also irritated a ton of fans and the UFC over a "stuffy nose."

That's a lose-lose situation if there ever was one.

If her sinusitis is chronic and she fought with it before, then why did she not tell the first doctor what was bothering her so they could properly treat it? Instead she said they only checked bloodwork. Seems fishy.

A couple of comments lead me to believe this is excuse making. One, she makes the comment she fought with it before. That makes her first hospital visit all the more suspect seeing as how she didn't direct the doctor to diagnose sinusitis. She knew what was bothering her, it makes no sense.

Second, she said she was referred to a specialist. If she is so sick with sinusitis that she needs a specialist I find it difficult to believe her symptoms would have been missed during her first visit to the hospital.

I think she had a bad weight cut and knew she would gas if she fought. Perhaps she has mild sinusitis, but her story reeks of over the top excuses. From needing to say she fought with it before to the need to see a specialist, seems like bs to me.

I really hope her next fight camp goes well and her weight cut is on point. If she pulls out again, Dana will strip her which would suck

Goes to hospital not being able to breathe but no one in the ER seems to have noticed. Ok, sure, bridge to sell perhaps?

I agree with this. Dana sometimes throws people under the bus for an agenda, other times just because he is an irrational, volatile piece of shit that likes bashing people to satisfy his own ego, but the read I got was that he at least genuinely believed whatever issues she had were minor, and that he was not deliberately underplaying them.

That said, if Nunes knew she was going to fight like shit due to a bad weight cut, it makes sense for her to just fight another day and create enough doubt with the sinusitis story. If she fights this other girl and wins, nobody will really remember this shit.

Don't know anything about her but, on the face of it, this story sounds like a big load of bullshit

Let's not go too far. Hendricks' body of work in this regard is unprecedented, even by lofty Brazilian standards.

Lot of well stated points there. All the both of them.

Irritated who? I didn't give a fuck before and could give a fuck after she pulled out. The only thing I even slightly cared about was Joanna potentially taking a last minute fight.

She should be stripped of the belt and it should automatically go to Ronda.
Lol Its so weird. All crazyness aside Ronda carried and defended that belt 6 times
in a row seemingly without a blink nor hesitation. Its been nothing but dropped belts,
belt hot potato and chaos since she got dethroned.

When it comes to dealing with the pressure of being Champion she seems to be cut from a different
cloth then the rest of these ladies and to make shit even weirder when it comes to dealing with loses and
being able to face the public she also seems to be cut from a different cloth then these ladies

Therein lies the oxymoron and craziest shit about this whole situation

This...

For this has been written. Its ancient law
Should be an amendment to that law. Look at Cody MacKenzie, Brendon Shaub and Most of all Happa Brown.... All three Men have "Grappled" with Ronda (wink wink) and look what happend to their careers afterwards. It's like the reverse Midas Touch.
