It's hot and humid in southeastern Texas but it's not Louisiana, it's not Missisippi, it's not Georgia or Alabama, and it's certainly not Florida.

The real South includes the 5 states I mentioned. In Florida we have more alligators and cottonmouth snakes than anywhere else in the country. You literally have to check your swimming pool before jumping in.

There are a few alligators in Texas but there aren't that many.
You know, one of my best pals online, he went by the handle Goldie Wilson lll the short time he lasted here, he also hales from Miami. I used to kid him that being chased home from school by those gators everyday scarred him emotionally. Made him the mean troll he grew up to be. He is buddies with a few of us here, Galt, Vutu a couple of others but nobody has heard from him now in a couple of years.

I hope he is doing alright wherever he is but I kind of doubt it to be honest. Hope so though.

megatherium @Harry Rama I laugh when people in any other state complain about humidity.

It's 2 am my time and this is what I'm facing if I go outside:

50-60% humidity (the max that most states have right now) is what we call winter.

I'm not from Miami but I'm close.

The alligator threat is blown out of proportion by the media but it is real. It is very real. Scientists say that there is not a single area of fresh water pond-sized or larger that does not contain at least one alligator.

As a kid you learn to avoid the water. Even if it weren't dark and filthy, we wouldn't swim in it. We fish in it, sometimes stand in it, but in general we don't swim in it.

The 3 year old boy that got attacked at Disney World, may he rest in peace, but his family wasn't from the state. If they had been, they wouldn't have allowed him to be in the water, especially around dusk (when alligators feed).

@conor mcgregor nut hugger I am in Vancouver BC Canada. The Horseshoe Bay neighborhood of West Van to be exact. It's the little village where you catch the ferry across to Vancouver Island. We have had no rain in over two months now and if you're familiar at all with our neck of the woods that is very unusual to say the least. We were choking on smoke for a couple of weeks recently. Orange sun, smoky overcast sky every day. Looked like the end times. Biblical.

I was in Vegas in April.

I'll trade your dry heat for our humidity any day of the week. Dry heat is bearable.

I'd probably despise your winters more than I despise our summers, but for most of the year, I think I'd like living in tour neck of the woods.

We have no dry heat here I'm afraid. That's the rest of Canada east of here. This a a rain forest.

Well it's supposed to be anyway. Might be changing by the look of things.

Anyway, short pleasant summers (if we're lucky) surrounded by nine months or so of heavy rainfall.

This year though we have had a full summer with nearly no rain and the woods are on fire.

Cmnh doesn't know about that "bayou city".
Houston and East is essentially Louisiana bayou.

Hmm. Mine would be the same as Seattle and Portland then. There's no difference in the weather between Vancouver BC and those places. We just have funny accents and a lot of rich Chinamen about. Everything else is actually quite similar. Looks like CMNH and I are in the same boat humidity wise and you're a little worse off.

Is this new to people? My dads yard floods with almost every rain and there's at least 3-4 of these floating around.
Again, in the real South that you and I live in, this stuff is normal. The pussies from Texas/Appalachia/the Carolinas have no idea what living in the South really means.

Why in the hell do you have your temp set on Celsius?
I was talking to someone from Canada so I changed the settings on my phone for that screenshot.

More than that, Celsius is the least understood "non-American" unit of measurement for me, probably because it's so difficult to convert. Every time I try I'm like 10 degrees off. That's a big fucking difference.

OK so we're about even. Perhaps coastal Texas is, at least partly, in the real South.

USATODAY.com - Answers: Is Florida or Texas more humid

You still don't have to check your swimming pools for gators, though.

Leave the conversion issues to the Celsius Commies. As an American, that isn't something you need to bother yourself with.

Bradbury didn't write Celsius 232.778

You know I never did convert to that commie Celsius system when Trudeau converted Canada. Never learned his new lyrics to our national anthem, always resented injecting God into it. Nor learned French either. Always hated that fucker and detested most of his ideas. Still prefer the Red Ensign flag too.

I want to get his idiot son Justin into the boxing ring one day. That's my dream. Empty husk.

I had no idea that Canada had been using Fahrenheit so recently.

In all seriousness, is it difficult for the older generations to understand, or has most of the country gotten used to it?

I sort of understand it but I guess I went out of my way not to learn it as a protest because I hated Trudeau so much. It was the same with learning French I guess. It seemed to come rather easily to me in school but yet I resisted mightily, dropping the elective as soon as it was allowed academically. All to spite La Grande Fromage. And he really hated us BCers too, the feeling was mutual. Fuckhead.

The new red maple leaf flag. The metric system. The new lyrics in the national anthem. Official bilingualism. Official multiculturalism. The repatriated constitution. I wanted to cram it all up Trudeau's ass.

But that was me. I'm probably an outlier.

But to answer your question, yes everybody grumbled but went along with it and older folks had to sink with it or swim. You people were supposed to be converting as well around that same time I understand but evidently you weren't willing to go along with it. We on the other hand are a much more compliant lot. We're the perfect subjects for social engineering projects great and small and Trudeau seemed to appreciate this fact intuitively.

Trudeau actually married a local Vancouver girl though he hated the English with a passion and especially hated us out on the west coast here. I'll never forget him giving a crowd the finger in the BC interior when he was touring the country by train. it might have been on the occasion of his wedding actually.

Apparently metrification has been a complete success in Australia.

Though I believe our reason for not switching was industry-related rather than social rejection, it would make sense for us to switch.

I would hate it of course, because my brain works in American imperial units, but it would still make sense.
