Daniel Cormier is back to being the UFC light heavyweight champion.

Cormier said Wednesday on UFC Tonight that he spoke with UFC president Dana Whiteearlier in the day and White told him he is the titleholder again. UFC spokesperson Lenee Breckenridge confirmed with MMA Fighting on Wednesday night that Cormier has been reinstated as champ.

Jon Jones defeated Cormier to win the belt at UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, Calif. But Jones tested positive for the steroid Turinabol in an in-competition drug test and the ‘B’ sample confirmed the positive test Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) overturned the fight to a no contest — no longer a win for Jones.

Therefore, Cormier is back to being the champion.

Did they overturn the Bigfoot and Brock wins? Any other cases like this lately?

He should without a doubt get the max, DC is the rightful champion.
It makes you wonder, how insecure, or unsure do you have to be, to after alllllllllllllll that you've done, come back and dope again when you've got a massive height, reach and age advantage already.
If Cormier had been juiced for years, what would've he done to Jones?
Cormier is right, he totally disrespected the fans, him, and the whole sport.
I have no doubt Cormier would've defeated a clean post-USADA Jones.

He should abandon it and try for the HW strap.

If he became HW champ it would do wonders for his legacy - not just because he would be a 2-division champ. It would be a real belt, there would be no Jon Jones asterix, and it would give him something Jones himself wasn't willing to risk fighting for.

For me the P4P talk is marketing nonsense - the HW strap is THE belt until proven otherwise. The UFC HW champ is the best MMA fighter on the planet, full stop.

What does he get out of fighting Gus again or Volkan? HW is the only way to step outside of Jones' shadow.

Probably your best post to date.

Yup...I reckon he'd have a good chance against Stipe too. Stipe's great and all, but I think Cormier's combo of power, speed and wrestling could pose some trouble for him.

This is my feeling as well. I'm guessing he's waiting on Cain, but honestly LHW is tainted for DC because of the Jones thing. A fight with Stipe, which I think DC could win, would cement his status and almost erase any doubts about his greatness.

Jon Jones ruined his own legacy and stole Cormiers rightful hype. Its terrible beyond just cheating in a fight.

Cormier has beat all comers at two weight classes sans known cheater Jon Jones. Cormier adjusted schedules to challenge himself with "the best". He wasn't that young when doing that and even less now. Jones' actions stole time, money, and momentum from him.

"Cormier goat?" Would be the internet threads without this. At a minimum, his integrity of always pushing for a tougher fight should be admired as much as all his wins, which there are many.
I expect DC would have been headed back to HW last year for a super fight without Jon Jones.

I don't understand how he can get the belt... Surely they need to fight for it?

Although at this point they're handing belts out like skittles so who actually cares

Recency bias. While there may be some room for debate as to which exact post is my Magnum Opus, it would definitely involve my muse, Tim Kennedy.

He's got to talk to cain and be honest with him. Cain never fights and DC isn't getting any younger........

He's the rightful champion. Beat everyone in the division, except the dude that had to cheat in order to fight. Cormier deserves it.

Now make Gus vs DC 2 and lets move this division on without Jones.

I also think, he doesn't deserve to have his ppv points taken away the next time he fights, which would be for a belt anyway. Props to the UFC in this case for not making him fight for the belt and just pocketing that money themselves.

Roids or not in the aftermath of JBJ/DC 2, Jones holds a win over DC. Outside of Hammil no one holds a win over pre-powerlifting Jones. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I really like DC but there no question that as long as he's at LHW he'll have the "but you never beat Jones" hanging over his head.

As Sheepdog @lordofthepies said he should move up the HW and move on. I disagree that HW is the most important title in MMA but the rest of his post was absolutely spot on.

So when situations like this happen (when the failed test comes out after the fight has happened), does Jones have to relinquish his fight purse?

Fake belt. Hooray. Lol. It's so cute that Danny thinks he's a champ.
