Got caught not protecting himself at all times
What is funny about that was that his white sox team mate just let him fall to the ground without softening the fall but I guess it happened too fast in real time.
My guess is he saw how lightly that weak-ass slap connected and just assumed Anderson was goofing around like a Diaz Brother.
It wasn't a weak ass slap this video explains how he couldn't walk correctly for a while he was rocked badly.

Benson has to leg it out to 1st. That's what triggered Jr to try this play to begin with.
And the runner - Stephenson - has to see what's happening and know that if Benson is going to be out at first he doesn't have to run to 2nd. Just keep your foot on the 1st base bag.

You are likely referring to the wild card standings - which they are in contention for.
