Russian didn't exist until 1991, and the Olympic athletes of Russia is not Team Russia. They were a group of athletes the IOC allowed to play due to the lack of evidence of them juicing while Team Russia was DQ'ed from the Olympics for cheating. USSR != Russia, that was the Soviet Union.

Hockey Canada got decimated during the #metoo era . turns out the hockey players were gangbanging chicks . they pretty much gutted the hockey program and froze funding for several years. there has been an effort by the government to change the culture around hockey in canada . i dont really expect canada to be a top hockey team for some years to come
