A load of people heard rumours that the crazy woman on Beaver Lane with wild hair killed her husband and pickled his head in a jar. Hearsay isn't evidence.
Hasn't this dude been in politics since the 80's? And all this shit that happened in the 70's is just now surfacing? I find it odd.
He holds some very conservative political views. He was removed from his position of Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court in 2003 for refusing to take down a monument of the Ten Commandments. He was again elected Chief Justice in 2013 but was suspended in 2016 for continuing to enforce the state's ban on same sex marriage despite the ban being ruled unconstitutional at the federal level.
He is basically the poster boy for politicians that libs want to keep out of office. The timing of these allegations is certainly convenient.

But if that's so, he's been a piece of shit his entire life. So if all this happened in the 70s, why does it just now come to light?

I would hate to admit that I knew this about him back then and did nothing. Maybe it wasn't so uncommon back then? (Edit: just remembered a man in our old neighborhood who was known for trying to rape women. So I guess everyone can know and let it continue. But that's a long story.)

There's definitely a legit possibility that it's all bogus and is being done in the name of politics.
There's also a legit possibility that it's very real and being done due to the current climate of women coming out and being vocal about all of the assaults and harassment that they have had to deal with. Strength in numbers kind of thing.
I don't know the truth and we probably never will. However assuming too much in either direction is definitely the wrong move.

do you remember the national media descending on Alabama about that monument? I find it hard to believe there was a whole town where this was common knowledge, a national media covering a guy they're unsympathetic to, & they found nobody that said a word about this to them?

Davis and Alice Crites reported Monday that a woman who appears to have been working for Project Veritas, the conservative activist group run by James O’Keefe, approached the newspaper with a false claim that she had an abortion at age 15 after Moore impregnated her.
As Boburg, Davis and Crites wrote, “the group’s efforts illustrate the lengths far-right activists have gone to try to discredit media outlets for reporting on allegations from multiple women that Moore pursued them when they were teenagers and he was in his early 30s.”
Instead of discrediting prior reporting, however, the botched sting showcased the journalistic rigor that news outlets such as The Post exercise before publishing accusations like those against Moore, the Republican Senate candidate from Alabama."
