For anyone who thinks this started with Al Gore, it goes back to Carl Sagan and further.
Eventually we'll reach an environmental tipping point after which there won't be any fixing it like we did with the ozone layer. No "catching up" or "holding it steady".
It'll happen, because of the same people who were unconvinced of the CFC problem.

A new example of this has just been recorded as scientists confirm that the 1 million square kilometre wide hole over the Arctic has now closed

lets be honest. we havent reached the breaking point yet, but theres no way we dont cross it. humanity is fucked due to greed
ahh yes mans desire to live free from the elements, to want to use fuel for heat in the winter, and air to stay cool in the summer super greedy. To have food to eat without spending all day looking for it.

You got a solution that will have a meaningful effect on climate change that also doesn't plunge large swaths of the planet into abject poverty and starvation?

Do you know how many people freeze to death each year vs how many die from the heat?

then seem to take that as, “WeLl If ThEy CaN dO iT…”
problem with this is we could go net zero carbon emissions tomorrow in our country. Would have a negligible effect on the planet in the next 100 years and would drastically hurt not only our economy but the people living in our country.

yes. the green new deal

do you have a solution other than "im a right winger. im supposed to say climate change is fake. fuck the liberals! DERP!"

This is the exact moronic logic I’m talking about.

so no more planes or cows for food or any myriad of things in the green new deal. Also who; paying to update all of the houses and buildings that need updated to energy standards in the green new deal. As far as transferring away from fossil fuels to green energy how do you address the grid failures we see in places like texas when it got cold or california in the summer with their rolling black outs? Quote on quote renewable energy is no way strong or reliable enough to keep people warm in the winter and cool in the summer. What do you do with developing nations like africa and india. Fuck you we got our energy and can afford to cut back now but you guys cant use fuel to prosper and grow?

Perhaps you missed my initial post. But i don't disagree with manmade climate change or the effect we are having. Or with the general projections for the next 100 years. However i've yet to see a solution that does not cause more issues than it pretends to fix. but yess don't address any of the specific policy debates just hurl ad-homenim attacks.

“And I think the part of it that is generational is that millennials and people, in Gen Z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change.

ahh yes your lets shot ourselves in the foot for no practical reason logic is far superior.
So your logic is, “we should just keep doing what we’re doing, because other nations aren’t going to do anything”? How is it shooting ourselves in the foot if we transition to other methods of energy? Is there not opportunity for other methods of energy to yield the same amounts of money for corporations?

if your solution is worse than the original problem than yes absolutely. I am not suggesting we do nothing either. Also both nuclear and fracking brought our carbon emissions down. both things the current administration is against.

Also solar and wind have shown in Texas, California, and in Europe right this very moment. They cannot cope with the energy use required to heat us in the winter and cool us in the summer. Same problem in Africa right now where they are burning wood/dung/coal for heat. I agree there is opportunity for them to yield money but as of yet they do not and they also don't generate enough consistently reliable power.

Look into how much carbon solar panels cause. The ones in California right now are being disposed of and are leaking toxic chemicals into the ground water. In a place that already is under drought.

It's shooting yourself in the foot because you are taking actions that have negligible effects on the problem and cause far more worse ones in the immediate.
