In March everyone thought it would be way worse.

Edit: Ah, here we are:

You are talking complete nonsense, as per usual. Here is Fauci saying 100,000-200,000 in March.

Then when the US started implementing measures in April, he had it down to 60,000.

Compared with the actual model used by the US government and presented as the authoritative prediction to the public, things have been much worse.

And the funniest thing about this is that the doctor quoted in the Daily Mail will actually be pretty spot on with the 480,000 death prediction - except it will likely still be a slight undercount when researchers go back and do their final estimates. So even when you try to cherry pick evidence, it still blows up in your autistic face.

Definitely ignore both the quotes and context. It helps to prop up the complex you wield around this site like a mace. Have you noticed that only you and @conor mcgregor nut hugger are the only ones who feel the need to constantly name call?

The context was another poster looking at 300k deaths, clutching their pearls because Trump, and pretending that no one ever thought it could be this bad. I pointed out that in the early days of covid you didn't have to look far to find people who thought it would be worse. I just went back in this thread and pulled a quote from the first predictive article I came across. The early days of this thread have aged incredibly.
point taken, you're correct on that. But we have to remember that Fauci/CDC/WHO were downplaying the estimates early on.

Absolutely. They were downplaying and still coming up with numbers in the hundreds of thousands. Pretending that "no one saw this number coming" is playing politics where it doesn't need to be played. We should be focusing on this not being the black plague we feared and reevaluating all the things that didn't work. Instead we're getting the same arguments, and measures that we were in March. I remember very well 3 months in being told by people that "Eating better and losing weight isn't a reasonable goal in 3 months." Here we are at month 10 and that's still advice being largely ignored.

We've learned that those 2 groups are compromised through their own press releases. You can disagree with a lot of his opinions, doesn't make his statements uniformly wrong.
