Whenever you think your government's response to covid is embarrassing, just remember this image of the UK's Healthy Secretary breaching social distancing regulations by making out with his assistant:

Both married (to other people), both have three kids (with those other people).

"Oh fuck I forgot to type the greeting. But I don't want to waste ink by printing this shit again so I'll just write it in with a pen":

Sheepdog @Maycee Barber Fan you laughing at the cunts in Sydney/NSW?

Yes, I am enjoying it, but it's already got us again too. There's outbreaks in Brisbane and Perth as well now.

While we've only had a few cases from the Sydney outbreak so far, the virus is obviously circulating because they didn't shut the borders properly or in time. Give it a couple of weeks and we will be back in lockdown ourselves. The shoddy quarantine system, which was already rubbish against the old virus, can't handle the new variants at all.

The vaccine situation is even more insane now. They've banned AstraZeneca for under 60s, and that's the only thing we can produce. So we've got huge stockpiles of it now expiring and near-empty vaccination centres. There's stories about younger people getting informed consent, but mainly stories of them cracking down on this.

If I was allowed to get AstraZeneca, I'd happily go and get it tomorrow and it would not prevent anyone else from getting one - it would just stop a vaccine from being thrown out and a nurse from doing nothing. But none of us are allowed. Has pushed the ridiculously slow vaccine timeline out much further, because all the over 50s are now going to get the Pfizer earmarked for the under 50s.

It's a genuine debacle.

So besides OAZ, Canberra has only ordered Pfizer? No deals made for any other vaccines?

We have deals for Moderna and Novavax too, but these deals were made really late and they won't start arriving until the end of the year.

We are getting Pfizer, but they aren't going to ramp up the supply we need until September. It's ridiculous what they are doing with AstraZeneca. Yes, there are very rare serious side effects but the same is true of Pfizer too.

And they are insisting on sticking to the 3-week timline for the 2nd dose of Pfizer even though the research shows that 1 dose is almost as effective, and that people who had their 2nd dose of Pfizer after 12 weeks (like AstraZeneca) had much higher antibodies. They should just be giving everyone 1 shot now and then getting them in for the 2nd dose in a few months when supply is much better. That way you protect more of the population now, and protect everyone better in the future.

But they insist on fucking literally every part of this up.
