Are people still trying to make this a liberal vs conservative thing? This is why America ISN'T great, far from it, because in a time of crisis, instead of coming together, they still want to pick sides in bullshit teams, supporting people who truly don't give a fuck about any of us.

I had to go to the grocery store this morning. Went pretty early when all the old people are there.
I see a ton of people wearing valved painters masks.
The primary argument for everybody wearing mask is source control because we don't have testing and the ability to isolate cases. If you are wearing a mask that has a one-way valve allowing you to exhale through it, you're completely defeating the main data-driven purpose of masks.
I must also question the physics of that one-way valve. Does the mask create a bubble of humidified air followed by increasing velocity of air because you're exhaling through the small valved hole?

Did you wear a mask? I wore one for the 1st time the other day because I had to go to the store for essential pork cracklings. My son is a plumber so he gave me this to wear.

My sister made some fabric masks and is mailing them to the whole family. Those I can machine wash.
I was just talking to someone at a store about this yesterday. The valves masks are specifically designed to protect you from inhaling dust etc, but they at best offer decreased protection to the environment from an infected person, and they might even make a normal breath spray aerosol further (although I think most droplets would get caught in the mask by inertia as they leave the mouth). Wearing that type of mask is similar to the folks wearing one pair of gloves while they go about their regular business. Looks like they are helping, but in reality they are not.
By the way- if you see sensitivity/specificity numbers for any of the Coronavirus tests, please let me know.
