Vaccine researchers have had full protection. Essential workers haven't. That has been a case of survival of the fittest. The vast majority of those who consider themselves to be the most valuable were deemed useless and told to stay at home unless they could work without leaving the house because they weren't integral to a functioning society.

i think a large segment of the population that stayed home did so because they could contribute to society from home. Work pace has not slowed down in a lot of industries.
I also think that unless the vast majority of people are practicing appropriate counter-measures, no one in the community is safe from community spread.
