It's interesting. It was supposed to remove gatekeepers to information.
But we instead have good info and bad info at the same level. And it was SUPPOSED to be truth would rise to the top.
But new studies suggest that false info moves fastest and if you put out a TINY error and then try to tell the truth later (hey guys after recalculating we want to state the best answer is...) it creates a slingshot effect and people latch ON to your wrong answer that you yourself are fighting against!

The spread of true and false news online

It really hasn't been the technology panacea that I had hoped. I was a huge tech nerd and for a long time believed if all info were available and gatekeepers dumped and all ideas debated we'd get to truth and a greater human knowledge. That's silicon valleys mantra.

I was wrong.
agree 100%
but what some deem "good info" is in fact not

and what some deem "bad info" is in fact credible

Therein lies the rub

muddy muddy waters my friends

then why are we believing the "data" at face value?

the influence upon us is enough to potentially create a calamity mountain out of a calamity molehill, or vice versa

proceed/believe with caution...propaganda around every corner

i'm not.
but i know you can't fake all the data all the time. And the data that aligns with previous experience AND with good models, I believe.

This is why we have to follow the sources, have an understanding of geopolitical motives, watch for rhetoric. News is not presenting a fact. it's trying to sell you a car. On Twitter it's online glory they want, followers, clicks, etc. They want your eyes on them, clicking and sharing away. Especially when we find something that supports our side, our team, our identity that is our opinion.

Internet is for memes and misinformation. That's just the way it is, and just the way the way want it.
Keep dumb folks, like myself, dumb.

have an opinion
don't let your opinion have you

meanwhile, real statistical analysis indicates that they're undercounting COVID deaths by at least 2X (based on death rates over previous years)

She's been pushing /pol/ memes as her own thoughts for a week

And my favorite...wimpy fence sitting. Push innuendo all day to promote yourself but never quite take a position so you can always be right...

If any of these people had an ounce of integrity, instead of using others lies to push their own lies, they would just be truth tellers. But instead they just look for gotchas to give their own crap. Today its her group trending. Tomorrow it'll be another.

I’ve been saying this for years. Giving everyone a platform really isn’t the answer IMHO. There is some shit that is legit dangerous. But who do we grant the power to determine what is fact and what is fiction?

What else do expect her to tweet about? Mass shootings? Or the lack of?

"I'm just asking questions..."

the gutter that anti-intellectuals die in

It's the perfect answer. It build partisanship. Masses can't unite if they're divided now can they?

I expect her to tweet about this. Just also realize if you follow the trending these aren't her thoughts. She's just parroting 4chan and other youtubers that got their start on /pol/

I just find this disengeious:

It's nothing but this...She's clearly in the "it aint a threat" camp.

That's fine. I wouldn't blink. Some people are. But she won't stand by it....
Anytime someone responds to data she leaves herself a backup and ducks out...

Might as well call her Dr. Drew 2

BTW, lest you think I was calling out Candace Owens for her tweet about the baby specifically. To reiterate, you and I are on the same page there.

It is the timing with the rest of her tweets and retweets, all of which are about the numbers of COVID19 being overblown that is the point. . This is sort of typical for the twitterati who latch onto one reality piece and then expand. They can always "say yeah but look at this one piece!"

If that wasn't the trending at the same hour, I'd assume it was just politics and move on. Owens is simply using the baby point as a jumping off for the greater trending that is happening today on twitter.
The real point in this current twitter trend implying the "other side" is getting money to pump up the COVID19 numbers. Her immediate tweets afterwards...

The 12% reference to Italy has been a repeated soundbyte for weeks in the same circles.

It comes from an Italian doctor that said only 12% of coronavirus cases has no other comoborbdities. This is VERY different than Owens attempt in all of this that all the coronavirus deaths are vastly overblown by 88%. That's her eventual tweet and its not an accident.
She's been nudging that way for weeks
Federalist pushed the same 12% that Italy was intentionally over blowing its deaths.
All this stuff just gets stuck in an echo chamber and repeated until no one goes back to find out where it came from.

I’m with you. The misinformation that is being repeated is infuriating.

Really is no surprise. Reddit is funded by China investors, and they're slowly and methodically censoring content over there.
Future is sold out and there's not a damn thing we can do about it.

The coalescing of the internet into so few sites is terrible
