We've only lost 58,000...more than the whole Vietnam war but no big deal right?
Well that is 58k out of under 3 million who served there. And the number who saw combat is lower.

This 58k is out of 350 million.

And a lot of the country that isn't affected or barely affected has had to destroy small businesses, go broke and stay locked indoors

How bout all the soldiers who died fighting for our freedom that most ppl just gave up at the first sign of a fever

Imagine how many would've died if we had done nothing

more deaths in America in the past month than American combat deaths in WW1.

we don't have to imagine what things would be like if we did nothing, there are countries that did nothing and experienced the consequences.
we just have to extrapolate to our demographic.

did you serve in the military? I ask because it's generally only people who have never served or who have never lost someone in combat who talk about 'dying for freedom'.

My household is a result of this. I would rather husband and I not die though. That's hardly irrational. I know different parts of the country don't really feel as alarmed as others because they aren't affected or aren't at high risk. I'm sure as fuck at high risk health and location wise so 58,000 is terrifying.

Collapsing the economy, destroying small business and handing over your freedom to the government for an indefinite period of time should be much more terrifying

what would happen to the economy if the worst-case probable outcome materialized in the US?
do you think the recovery time from an artificial 'collapse' is shorter or longer than the recovery time for a collapse caused by a public health catastrophe?

Where do you think the line is for the government in serving public health? Are speed limits immoral? What about closing public parks at night?

Is your anti-authority streak stronger than your self-preservation streak? ;)

My friend died this morning. We knew it was coming but thought it was months away. Tragic thing? Because we're level headed adults we didn't get to hang out with him. before he died...we knew him from an Arsenal bar where he bartended.

Fuck ANYONE flouting physical distancing, I miss him dearly already, but none of us were stupid enough to do anything other than text or phone.

I'm completely fucked sad. It wasn't even Corona that he died of.

He went peacefully with his brother, just hope he's in a better place...I know he knew we were all thinking of him and would have been hanging out, but it really brings it home how damned serious this thing is.

If you're counting Vietnam war deaths only on people who served, and that is a legitiamate thing to do, you then also have to do that for Covid. So that 58k is out of 1 million.
