    Recent UFC Hw Champion activity-

Daniel Cormier fought 2 times at HW in 2018(3 fights total 1 in Lhw)

Stipe Miocic fought 1 time the following year he became champion, two times the following year

If you have a tournament of the best fighters, you get at least two of these guys fighting 4 times throughout the year to become the 2020 HW Tournament winner, which comes with a hefty payday and the covited title for the badest man for that weight class.

    1.Daniel Cormier

    2.Stipe Miocic

    3.Derrick Lewis

    4.Francis Ngannou

    5.Curtis Blaydes

    6.Alexander Volkov

    7.Alistair Overeem

    8.Junior Dos Santos

    9. Aleksei Oleinik

    10.Marcin Tybura

    11. Justin Willis

    12. Tai Tuivasa

    13.Shamil Abdurakhimov

    14.Walt Harris

    15.Andrei Arvloski

    16. Stefan Struve

If you go by seeding it'd look like

    Daniel Cormier vs Stefan Struve

    Stipe Miocic vs Andre Arvloski

    Derrick Lewis vs Walt Harris

    Francis Nganou vs Shamil Abdurakhimov

    Curtis Blaydes vs Tai Tuivasa

    Alexander Volkov vs Justin Willis

    Alistair Overeem vs Marcin Tybura

Junior Dos Santos vs Aleksei Oleinik

I see Daniel Cormier advancing with more than likely facing Stipe or Ngannou in the finals.

Whoever wins, DC, Stipe, JDS, Ngannou, whoever, will have fought and won FOUR times in 2020 against ranked opponents.

Would you view that heavyweight as being more dominant than a hw who fought 1-2 times in the same time span? I would.

Recent LHW Champion activity-DC defended the lhw title 1 time in 2018. Prior to that 2017 title was not defended.

    1.Jon Jones

    2.Daniel Cormier

    3.Alexander Gustafsson

    4.Anthony Smith

    5.Jan Blachowicz

    6.Volkan Oezdemir

    7.Corey Anderson

    8.Thiago Santos

    9.Dominick Reyes

    10.Ilir Latifi

    11.Jimi Manuwa

    12.Glover Teixeira

    13. Ovince St Preux

    14.Mauricio Rua

    15.Misha Cirkunov

    16.Nikita Krylov

If you went by seeding, it'd look like:

    Jon Jones vs Nikita Krylov
    Daniel Cormier vs Misha Cirkunov
    Alexancer Gustafsson vs Mauricio Rua
Anthony Smith vs Ovince St Preux
    Jan Blachowics vs Glover Teixeira
    Volkan Oezdemir vs Jimmy Manuwa
    Corey Anderson vs Ilir Latifi
    Thiago Santos vs Dominick Reyes

If DC isn't participating b/c of retirement or choosing to do hw tournament, his spot is gone and someone else moves up. If Jon Jones is suspended, he's not in the tournament. The winner of this tournament will have fought FOUR times in 2020 against top ranked opponents and will have earned the covited title, baddest LightHeavyweight for 2020, along with a payday win bonus.

Recent Mw Champion activity-2018 one title defense. 2017 no title defenses, 2016 no title defenses. Bisping won title, fought 1 time after. GSP won title, vacated. Whitaker won interim title, fought 1 time defending it following year.

    That, versus-

    2020 UFC Middleweight Tournament!!!!

    1. Robert Whitaker
    2.Yoel Romero
    3.Luke Rockhold
    4.Ronaldo Souza
    5.Kelvin Gastelum
    6.Chris Weidman
    7.Israel Adesanya
    8.Paulo Costa
    9.Derek Brunson
    10.Jared Cannonier
    11.Brad Tavares
    12.David Branch
    13.Antonio Carlos Junior
    14.Uriah Hall
    15.Elias Theodorou
    16.Anderson Silva

If you went by seeding it'd look like:
    Robert Whitaker vs Anderson Silva
    Yoel Romero vs Elias Theodorou
    Luke Rockhold vs Uriah Hall
Ronaldo Souza vs Antonio Carlos Junior
    Kelvin Gastelum vs David Branch
    Chris Weidman vs Brad Tavares
    Israel Adesanya vs Jared Cannonier
    Paulo Costa vs Derek Brunson

The winner of this tournament will have fought 4 names from this list and won all in the same year, earning the covited title of 2020 UFC Middleweight Tournament Winner, along with a tournament payday bonus!!!

Would you rather see something like this than one UFC fighter named champion MAYBE fighting once a year? I would.

    UFC 2020 Welterweight Tournament!!

Recent welter champion activity=defended the belt 1 time in 2018. Defended the belt 2 times in 2017. The past 2 years, having fought a total of 3 fights, is viewed as "the guy" at 170lbs.

    1.Tyron Woodley

    2.Colby Covington

    3.Kamaru Usman

    4.Darren Till

    5.Stephen Thompson

    6.Rafael Dos Anjos

    7.Robbie Lawler

    8.Santiago Ponzinibbio

    9.Demian Maia

    10.Leon Edwards

    11.Jorge Masvidal

    12.Neil Magny

    13.Gunnar Nelson

    14.Elizeu Dos Santos

    Seeding would look like"

    Tyron Woodley vs Alex Oliveira

    Colby Covington vs Geoff Neal

Kamaru Usman vs Elizeu Dos Santos

    Darren Till vs Gunnar Nelson

    Stephen Thompson vs Neil Magny

Rafael Dos Anjos vs Jorge Masvidal

    Robbie Lawler vs Leon Edwards

    Santiago Ponzinibbio vs Demian Maia

Winner of this tournament will have fought and won 4 times against guys on this list, earning them the title of 2020 UFC Welterweight Tournament Winner, along with a tournament payday bonus.

Would you prefer a guy fighting 1 or 2 times a year be considered the top guy for that weight class, or would you consider someone who fought and won 4 times against top ranked guys on this list? I for sure would prefer the latter over the former.

    UFC 2020 Lightweight Tournament!!!

    1.Khabib Nurmagomedov

    Dustin Poireir vs Nate Diaz

    Al Iaquinta vs Gregor Gillespie

    Kevin Lee vs James Vick

    Edson Barboza vs Donald Cerrone

    Justin Gaethje vs Anthony Pettis

The winner of this tournament will have fought and won FOUR TIMES to earn that year's covited title of 2020 UFC Lightweight Tournament winner, along with a big tournament winner payday bonus!

Would you like to see this unfold or have someone named champion for 3 years and having 1 title defense?

    Tourney Baby!

I want linear champ belt .

and yearly champs via yearlong tournaments

Sometimes the hottest fighter in a division gets no shot at the belt and their prime expires due to "rankings"

Let the active hungry guys go after a Belt free from politics

The current system is fucked because UFC has devalued their Belts by handing out interim titles like candy for promotional purposes to pump up their PPV’s.

The Belt is everything! The belt is what fighters are striving for - UFC does not understand that.

If they could have a legit Rankings System along with holding their titles at top value the UFC would be aaaaiiiigggghhhhhtttt!!

They could/should toss in Tournaments for each division every 4 years.

    2020 - HW tourney -WW
    2021 - LWH - LW
    2022 - Middle - FW
    2023 - women’s bullshit - Bantam
    2024 - reset - HW Tourney - Welterweight

My friend not on this forum made a good bring up in that Athletic Commissions might have a hard time licensing a #1 ranked fighter against #16 ranked fighter and he has a good point with that. So, what about....

    1 DC vs 8 JDS

2 Stipe vs 9 Aleksei Oleinik

3.Derrick Lewis vs 10 Marcin Tybura

4.Francis Ngannou vs 11J ustin Willis

5.Curtis Blaydes vs 12 Tai Taivuisa

6.Alexander Volkov vs 13 Shamil Abdurakhimov

7.Alistair Overeem vs 14 Andrei Arvloski

That leaves me with the only thing in this tournament bracket that I am not sure if it makes sense or not.

Should #15 face #16 when everyone else has 7 ranking differential? On one hand it stands out from all the other rankings but on the other hand, the top 8 guys should get easier fights in the first round so #15 facing #16 to advance to the 2nd round may not be a bad idea after all.

#1 what are ya'lls thoughts on this and #2, does anyone have a better bracket system?

i don't think AC would have a problem sanctioning #1 vs #16, in a tournament format (assuming the #16 fighter has a solid record)

    seriously. They sanctioned Mayweather/McGregor.

They wouldn't sanction Felder/Khabib because he was "unranked"

that was a last-minute substitution in a title fight. If they had booked Felder/Khabib 3 months prior and sold tickets for Felder/Khabib, no AC would deny license.

the ACs have proved to be shady as fuck . i dont see them having a problem with 1 vs 16 as long as an envelope of cash is involved

At best it's a grey area on IF the Athletic Commissions would sanction a 1 vs 16 ranked fighter.

So, lets side on the error of caution and re-vamp this tournament idea.....

    1 DC vs 8 JDS

2 Stipe vs 9 Aleksei Oleinik

3.Derrick Lewis vs 10 Marcin Tybura

4.Francis Ngannou vs 11J ustin Willis

5.Curtis Blaydes vs 12 Tai Taivuisa

6.Alexander Volkov vs 13 Shamil Abdurakhimov

7.Alistair Overeem vs 14 Andrei Arvloski

That leaves #15 fighting #16. While this doesn't fit the same gap as all the other fights, I'm okay with this b/c the higher ranked fighters get somewhat easier fights due to their rankings, so therefor the #15 ranked guy doesn't get that easy of a fight.

    Thoughts?

You must've missed my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th post lol

    Completely do away with belts.

It should be unanimous at this point from any seasoned mma fan, that belts don't work. You get bullshit interim belts, bullshit championship matches where the challenger isn't even deserving to fight for the title, you get people babysitting the belt citing bullshit injuries. This is no good.

Every year, every fighter has a chance to either win their weight class, or compete for a chance to be in the following years' tournament.

No more 1-2 fights from whoever is perceived as the top dog. No more interim belts.

Simplify it by simply having a tournament of the top ranked fighters. Whoever wins, is that year's best fighter for that weight class.

Want to be a legend? Win the shit multiple years in a row. LEGEND

Imagine how bad ass a consecutive 3 year tournament winner would be!!

The revered champions like Mighty Mouse, Anderson, Jones, they could still go on win streaks in the same format, achieving the same legendary status.(well minus Jones and the steroids, a whole nother issue).

This tournament format system is designed to still make the same if not more money for WME as I'm not asking for less or more events, just specific events where instead of having 3-4 big names and the rest of the card filled out, you get 3-4 big names and the rest of the card filled out it's just everyone is in the same weight class for specific events.

The tournament format system is designed to make fans clearly know year in and year out, who the clear cut best fighter for that year that weight class is. I mean in the past year or so, can we say for sure the best guy at 205 was Dc, or can we say for sure it was Jon Jones? Can we say for sure Robert Whitaker was the best 185er this year and last? Can we for sure say Khabib is the best lightweight?

When you're a hw and you fight 3 times a year, 2 against top 5 opponents at least, and one top 10, and you win them all, that would be the most accomplished record for that year/that weight class, without a doubt. Whoever the last opponent is would have 1 loss which makes it clear who the guy was that beat him, is the best guy for that year.

The only drawback on this system, is current champions can no longer hold a belt hostage. You can't wait for a contender to rise, you can't claim an injury knowing you're too new of a champion to be stripped. You HAVE to fight at least 3 times a year(if tournament is shortened to 8 man instead of 16), you HAVE to win all your fights. That's the ONLY way you are viewed as the man for that year.

I didn't say anything about belts. I pointed out that a HW tourney with just UFC fighters doesn't work as well as one that include fighters from Bellator.

Welterweight is the best example of that seeing as the Bellator champ beat the fuck out of the UFC champ.

Definitely a better format, its like a popularity contest in the UFC at the moment.

It is a business first and all that shit but the belts are starting to become meaningless in some divisions.

Exactly and it's unfortunately almost becoming a trend for champions to sit out especially early on. They also can make excuses like the division needs to sort itself out before I decide who I fight next....

    Tournaments negate all that.

And from a business perspective, it also helps keep fighters from becoming Conor McGregor big where it's a problem to deal with and demand more money. If you have these type of tournaments it's harder to stay on top winning them year in and year out. Any fighter who accomplished such a feat, would be worthy of the pay regardless of their charisma or lack there of.
