That's tight. I often think science tries to explain the how, while religion tries to help people understand the why.
Why do some people have dark skin??

Religion = "curse of ham, born into a lower caste etc"

Science = "Its a trait required for survival in hot climates" (WHY), "its caused by melanin" (how)

Ready to give up yet? I feel bad doing this to someone who fought for our freedom (politics be damned)

That actually happened and the entire human population besides those residing in America and the Congo accepted it.

Science will say "okay the new measurement of 1m is now how long it takes a beam of light to pass through an optic fiber cable as this is more accurate because blah" and we shall accept it.

Some guy in a strange wizard looking outfit telling me that the world is 6,000 years old is much less convincing
Boom. Science'd. :D

I know it did. It wasn't just those 2 places that rebuffed it, but yes it did happen.

and that's the definition of faith.

Just because you had a bad experience with a religious person, doesn't mean they're all the same homie.

Plenty of us prefer to use mostly reason and logic with a sprinkling of faith and speculative philosophy in there.

" The description of the eternal city includes this remarkable statement: “And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it” (Revelation 21:24). Thus, in some sense, national identities are to be retained, even in the ages to come."

Bwahahahahaha

"After the Flood, when “the whole earth was one language and one speech” (Genesis 11:1), men disobeyed God’s command to scatter and fill the earth, preferring to remain together and erect a single great world empire, with its capital at the first Babylon, and centered in the worship of the “host of heaven.”

Not only was there never a flood that shit is impossible

Isnt it amazing that the bible has been translated from an ancient greek language to hebrew (maybe the other way around) then through olde ENglish etc etc then by some kings and politicians but the writer puts such a emphases on the bible using certain interchangeable words as having some special meaning when that word/s may not have been used in the original text?

Gonna have to pull out our powers of a leap of faith

Thank fuck science doesnt ask this of me

but many findings are released with biases requiring that they be proven wrong by others.
Can you please expand on this, or give an example of biases? I assume you mean intentional biases? Science in the purest form should be free of bias (but I won't deny that there is some bullshit 'science' out there, like let's say something driven by $).

And I may be misunderstanding you about the part "requiring that they be proven wrong by others" part. Is that a bad thing? That's actually part of the scientific method. True science should be subjected to relentless questioning and examination, as this is how a hypothesis or observation evolves into a theory or truth. Data or information is presented, it is intensely evaluated and scrutinized, and adjustments are made. Each cycle of that gets you closer to, or achieves, a truth/fact/proof.

Sorry I forgot about Myanmar and Liberia
As far as I'm aware most of the commonwealth nations adopted it officially, but the public still often deals in imperial measurements.

Soooooooooooooo?
Well, you've been arguing for about 2 hours now that science doesn't require a leap of faith, but you just acknowledged that it has in the past asked that of people and you willingly made that leap.

Its religion itself I have an issue with, moreso the fukwits who acknowledge that it took a leap of faith in the first place yet actively proselytize

Thats FUBAR, pure fucking evil.

Anyone who quietly practices their religion I have no qualms with

He's merely unwilling to admit that it, much like any other man made system is fallible, and therefore requires you to take certain yet unproven things on faith. I dunno why. It's not insulting to simply say you don't know something. I'm religious, and scientific, and i do it all the time.

Ahhhh, the heart of the matter. The ex fucked you over and it's misplaced blame. I understand.

You are going to be fine homie. You're a good guy, you'll be in a better spot much more quickly than you think, and one day i believe you'll see it's not the religion that made the old lady crazy. Some crazy people just get religion as well as rational ones.

Is this your first divorce? I ask because i've been through two. Two more and i get a free sandwich! :D
