Why is a blue collar trade important?

Some of these choices seem pretty arbitrary
I don't mean to be ticketed but I think it's a good thing for every guy to know how to run a saw, wire ul a light, fix a faucet, weld and so on. Things that need attention around the house that a man should be able to at least tackle with confidence without having to instantly resort to calling another one in.

Agreed. Being generally handy at DIY leads towards self sufficiency. But say that then. "Blue collar" could mean working industrial machinery or working for the postal service - how is that relevant to the average man?

I'm not knocking blue collar guys, btw. You have a trade, that's great. But it's not a necessity. Being able to work a lathe is completely useless to me and will always be useless to me. I will never use one and even if I did, it wouldn't be enough to justify gaining trade level proficiency.

BTW this can also be for women as well. I've had more than a few women teach me how to do some technical "man" things as well (trim work, electrical, bjj,...). I'd gladly listen to a number of our resident pro female fighters on how to roll/fight/...

C'mon man lighten up, no need to microscope a thread meant to be fun. In no way am I saying that if you don't have blue collar knowledge you're not a man.....My definition of blue collar is simply getting shit done with your hands that usually requires some problem solving and sweat, I didn't mean every career path that could fall under that umbrella. From my experience in the trades its hugely dominated by men so that's why I added it in. If I met a guy who had never swung a hammer, used a chain saw or was quick with a measuring tape I'd think its just a little odd. If guys like SNIDELY WHIPLASH @ABE FROMAN think the same way about more techy stuff its probably because that's his line if work so he right as well.

How about just be a Man.

Somewhere allot of people lost what it actually is. A MAN takes care of his responsibility. Your family, your kids. You actually interact and raise your children and teach them the proper way to be productive adults in our society. You don't lay your ass on a couch and collect a check from the government or sit your fatass on a bar stool when you should be doing something with your kids. And one last point, you don't fucking put your hands on a woman.

That's exactly what you said :/ The thread is titled "Every "man" should know how to..." and you replied with "Have some understanding of a blue collar trade"

Maybe I should have phrased it better. I think we would all agree you can't just take an ass kicking but you can walk away. I cannot think of any situation where I would strike my wife. Not one.

Great post! Provide, protect and mentor those you're in a position to.

Well, hopefully you wouldn't hit anyone unless it was in self defence or defence of someone else or property. I don't see how having a vagina means someone can act in a way that someone else can't.

To give specific examples, if a woman hurts my kids, I'll full on right hand her in the mouth. Probably jump on her head, too.

I wouldn't treat a Gabi Garcia or Cyborg type woman with any preferential treatment compared to a 110lb man. Try not to resort to violence but if someone needs an ass kicking, lack of a Y chromosome isn't going to get them off the hook.

I agree emancipation, i probably wouldn't make fist but rather slap a woman that attacks me, but if it is a Cyborg or Gabi Garcia kind of woman attacking me better believe the fist come out.
I would never hit a woman that isn't trying to attack or hit me never but if she does well it's fair game i'm not a punching bag

That's very nice of you. I was starting to get pissy reading all this 'man stuff'

I do almost everything mentioned; carpentry, installing electrical outlets & connecting to the circuit breaker thingy, roofing, chainsaw proficient, stealing cable from the pole, and all while having a vagina. Girl power!!! o_O

Fishing is gross. Every since I started using tampons I've always associated fishing with searching for the tampon string to yank it out. You can get toxic shock and DIE. Hope you guys think about that now too. Toddles you big ol menz you

Assuming that by putting "man" in quotes you also meant wo"man" so other than the Peter North thing and being a literal man which someone mentioned, I can do pretty much all of this shit. I mean did you see the watermelon I'm growing?!?! It's like I am magic. Here's the thing though, I'm tired of doing it so I'm taking man applications for any of the above activities ;)
