Interesting to try to figure out how this will play for May's re-election bid. Tories are typically the law & order party but @Leigh and @RedDragonUK pointed out to me that media is mentioning this happened on their watch. Labour and seems to be responding well and the Lib Dems may split some of the difference. Thoughts on this from other Brits?Manchester attack latest: woman arrested in connection with the attack as police probe 'network'
"Community did warn about Abedi's extreme views, worker says More details are emerging about Salman Abedi.
A Muslim community worker has said that members of the public called the police anti-terrorism hotline warning about the Manchester suicide bomber’s extreme and violent views several years ago.
It is also understood that Abedi was in Manchester earlier this year when he told people of the value of dying for a cause and made hardline statements about suicide operations and the conflict in Libya.
The community worker – who did not want to be identified – said two people who knew Salman Abedi at college made separate calls to the police.
They had been worried that “he was supporting terrorism” and had expressed the view that “being a suicide bomber was OK.”
The friends had argued with him, telling him he was wrong but had become so concerned they contacted the police.
The community worker said, “all of the publicity is about Muslims not coming forward and this shows that they are coming forward and expressing their concerns.”
The calls are thought to have been made around five years ago after Abedi left school, where he was known to have smoked marijuana and mixed with gangs in south Manchester. "

@Team Bisping @benjo0101 @Joemacka @Zeph are you in UK?
My first thought when they said the troops were deployed was she's pooped her pants that she needs to show strength. She's got to. Her cuts will be brought up so she has to retaliate. I'm not against it but you can read it like a book.Interesting to try to figure out how this will play for May's re-election bid. Wow that's a custom made campaign ad in light of recent events.
Although IMO should be frowned on very hard. Too soon is my impression.Wow that's a custom made campaign ad in light of recent events.
But surely she knew that. It almost goes without saying.There is another clip somewhere, where she is warned that cutting the numbers will result in a paramilitary style response being needed......
I think the event will solidify May's position as prime minister, i say this as someone who will vote labour but it seems when countries are targeted, it pushes the populace to voted for 'what they know' and the 'safer' option especially if the government response has been adequate.Interesting to try to figure out how this will play for May's re-election bid. That's an interesting question. Do you have a link on that? If I were guessing, I'd say many left to participate in the "Arab Spring" uprisings in places like Libya or Syria which their government supported and then after seeing the disarray the UK/US government backed rebels were in they probably linked up with the significantly better armed and better organized ISIS troops. Then they saw the people they fought and bled alongside getting bombed by US drone strikes or found themselves fighting a 2 front war against the bungling rebels and Assad or Gaddafi loyalists and started thinking ISIS might have a point with their anti-Western rhetoric. The whole situation has been a mess and recipe for disaster since day one. I doubt this is the end of it as the destruction of ISIS will beget someone to fill the vacuum just as the decline of al qaeda gave rise to ISIS. Add in online radicalization and the watch lists are liable to keep growing.I read yesterday that 3,500 people are under watch in Britain for being potential terrorists, & between 400 & 1,000 have gone to fight for ISIS and returned. WTF is going on over there..
