My first attempt at growing mushrooms. Phoenix Oysters are the first to fruit. I've also got lion's mane and reishi going. The lion's mane are starting to poke through the bags, but the reishi have a while to go before they start pinning. It's super easy and each step is actually pretty fun.

This bed is ready for it's first haircut.

Third harvest is overdue in this bed. I should have done it today but the day got away from me.

I don't label my lettuce anymore since when I harvest I just mix everything together. I know what varieties I like so I just plant and rotate my tops picks. I really wish I would have labeled these though since I had shit germination on one of the varieties. Pretty sure it was ruby leaf, but not 100% so I'm not tossing that seed pack just yet. No big deal, still plenty of plugs for me, friends, and family.

You eat a lot of lettuce brother. Very cool, your system is very nice and that climate year round no stress for greens. Impressive.

Do you grow any culinary mushrooms like Uncle Tom Doug @Uncle Tom Doug ^

I have before, but no, I don't currently. Haven't in a few years. I actually got into mycology in 5th grade for a science fair. I got a tour of a Japanese mushroom company in San Diego and they gave me a couple inoculated blocks. Fun hobby.

He be posting nice garden greens year round while the rest of us are wet or frozen with barely any sunshine for months lol
Lettuce is the star of the garden. It's what I eat the most of, so I've always got a grip of it going. Nothing like being able to go out the back door and have fresh lettuce at your fingertips anytime you want.

Yep, very nice to have your own salad or other veggies right in the dirt outside.
We maintain greens year round but can't do some of those varieties and their isn't as much light so growth is far slower. Plants be getting shocked by all types of weather swings.

My lettuce struggles November - February due to the sun's position in the sky. My yard is shaded by some really tall trees to the south, so lettuce grows really slowly during those months. It grows, but doesn't thrive.

Ahh Yes. Huge variable is shading.
My southern neighbors put in a row of arbor vida, which increased privacy a ton, but shades my fruit trees and chicken area.

Whole row of asparagus on the inside edge of that raised wooden garden bed, just replanted a bunch that grew from seed. Been eating a lot of nice shoots this year from the middle older plants on that row. Most are pretty young(1st/2nd year) so you let them grow tall and feathery to gain steam/energy to make the root clump that sends up the big shoots normally associated with store or market bought asparagus. We get 25 big shoots per week or so from our 6 well established clumps in the middle

The sawdust around the fern and strawberries is from the chicken roost so has a lot of chickenshit in it to fertilize.

That bed has been turned and fertilized and will grow cucumbers soon, that fence panel is 8 feet tall with a a few inches sunk into the soil and secured with 3 T posts. Ran a tomato wall on that hog panel last year, with great success.

First the Bed got turned and fertilized
Then I transplanted some thriving sweet pea starts under a piece of vertical sheep panel(out of view) at the far edge of that bed.

Lady transplanted some kale and various lettuce and greens that were growing in random beds in the garden. I20250503_190832.jpg
Later some pole beans or other beans will climb the 8 foot panel behind the bed after the sweet peas give up. Probably just grow greens in the empty spaces in the bed this year.

Experimental outdoor autoflower seeds in 7 gallon pots using two diff types of soil
Seeds went into pots when temps were still going into the thirties which is harsh
Growth is very slow, probably 18-19 days old now and will grow buds in maybe 30 days or so...gonna be some little fellas20250503_190818.jpg
Also used two different types of soil 2 seeds in one and 2 seeds in the other soil, soil on left two pots was obviously a better soil for starts, twice the growth.

That's badass. Around here it's grows in ditches all over and you gotta watch your ditch or someone with a bucket will grab em, lol.
I could see that
We bought one or two 4 inch small plants/starts, not established clumps. It seeded itself all over the surrounding area. Now we have 20 clusters, it becomes exponential. Zero shoots 4 years ago, and next year, it will be all we can eat to keep up.

Those don't look like 7 gallon pots unless they are much taller than they look. That said, with autoflowers all you need is 3 gallons from my previous research.
