Coming from a criminal on a country that’s a de facto jailWelp, that settles it...

I didn't know you were a criminal, but that makes sense.Coming from a criminal on a country that’s a de facto jail
At any other place of importance we set up metal detectors and armed guards. It doesn't seem like a complicated solution to me.Watching those people from Florida yesterday were, shit, I don't know the word. Just worthless. "Don't ever let it happen again" seemed to be the mantra. Well, what the hell do you propose we do? Should we have armed militia in every school? Yeah, that would make me feel safe, until one of them misses their morning coffee and decides today is the day to go on a shooting spree. Don't ever let it happen again. What do you think mass shooters Skype with Trump and say, 'I think today is a great day to go on a shooting spree. What are your thoughts on that, Mr. President?' I'm going to guess that the answer to that would lean slightly to they probably don't.
Americans have guns. Lots of them. The price you pay for freedom, is every once in awhile, you have a random lunatic with one. So, instead of asking why we don't have an unachievable utopia, how about you offer a solution. What, you want everyone to just turn in their guns? Good f'n luck with that. Does it make any sense to disarm law abiding citizen to make them softer targets for those who don't? How are the 'gun free zones' working out? Uh - just call them targets. Guns are part of society, for better or for worse. Live your life, and be ready to run, take cover, or shoot back.
I don't really get what fantasy world some people live in.
The bad guys will just switch to other methods. At any other place of importance we set up metal detectors and armed guards. It doesn't seem like a complicated solution to me.
You should read...We need to take the guns away from the people, put them in the always trusted Police State and give all power to Pelosi, Feinstein, Shcumer, Clinton ect.
We need more police inside and outside schools, shopping centers, malls, sporting events.
We need more Drones flying over head and more cameras on the corners watching for suspicious activities.
We need cameras in peoples homes, because after all ...if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.
We also need to give up the rights to Free Speech for that is dangerous and could lead to public decent and create domestic terrorism / lone wolves.
After all America ...do you want to stay "Free"?
Then accept these ideas and enjoy your "Freedom" and be safe and sound.
Its really that simple.
You should read...

A lot of that stuff in there, drones, militarized state control, etc.
Not a problem. Not a mind-blowing book, but very interesting. I love me some dystopian novels, and how they relate to what we are heading to.Ok, I'll take your advice and check this one out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Put it on my list. Funny that the main character is named Win5ton, nice 1984 reference right off the bat.1984 Vs. Brave New World -- two all time classics when you talk about dystopian books -- both have legit relevance in todays day and age.
I've been looking for some new material so the book you recommended should be perfect
Another good book is:
Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, this has become a mandatory reading for incoming NSA agents to give them perspective:

Shut up.How did I miss this thread? One of my favourite topics to discuss
I shall make a couple of arguments using data to show why gun bans do not reduce homicide rates, then I shall give my argument for some type of gun control. I am also happy to address any questions or counterpoints and I keep an open mind; maybe you can show me that I'm wrong and I'll have learned something
1: Outlawing firearms does not reduce homicide rate.
This should be pretty obvious. Criminals don't care about laws. It is illogical to expect someone to respect a possession law when they've already decided to commit murder. I guess the argument is that it might stop impulsive murders but if these lunatics don't have guns, they'll kill each other with knives or cars. Here in the UK, you can buy semi automatic rifles, crossbows and other projectile weapons, yet people aren't skewering each other. We know prohibition doesn't work, otherwise there would be no drug crime.
Other gun control arguments are that the UK hasn't had mass school shootings since they brought in the ban and Australia hasn't had any mass shootings since their ban. What they don't mention is that the UK only had one school shooting in it's entire history, so it seems the lack of the gun ban was working for at least a hundred years. Australia may not have had mass shootings by a specific definition of the term but they HAVE had shootings involving multiple victims and they HAVE had numerous massacres since their ban, including a mass stabbing of children. Unless a reasonable argument can be made that being murdered by knife is better than being murdered by gun, this point is irrelevant.
Anyway, here are some numbers:

Notice the Y axis is not absolute, although firearm homicide rate actually increased (marginally) after the ban.

Here we can see that Australia's homicide rate was already decreasing and the gun ban had little effect on that trend.
2: Comparing countries is not apples with apples
It is at best flawed - and at worst, dishonest - to compare homicide rates between countries. Gun control advocates often cite the UK and Australia as examples of successful gun control (although I've dispelled those myths in point 1), yet ignore other countries where lower gun figures and higher homicide rates. Let's look at the top ten countries by gun ownership and compare them to the top ten countries by homicide rate.

Notice anything interesting? There is NO correlation between the two graphs.
The common response is that we need to make special amendments to the analysis to support the gun control argument, such as we need to compare first world countries. Why? The answer leads me to my next point.
3: Homicide rate is cultural
Yes, the US has a higher homicide rate than other western countries. Is this because they have more guns? Well, a number of other western nations also have high rates of gun ownership and low homicide rates. There doesn't seem to be any correlation. However, what separates the US from countries with lower homicide rates is national healthcare, subsidised higher education and not denying black people civil rights until the 1960s. Also interesting is that half the population actively oppose implementing two of those measures and race still plays a very prominent role in US society.
Compare the US to countries who also do not have national healthcare and subsidised higher education and the homicide rates look pretty good.
4: Conclusion
Despite all of the above showing that gun ownership doesn't correlate to homicide rates, I do think some gun control measures for the US would help:
I think this would start to change the culture around guns, which is really what's needed. Responsible gun owners are not the problem, so encourage gun owners to become responsible. Would possibly reduce accidental deaths and suicides. By registering and licensing, it will at least potentially allow police to trace murder weapons more easily and may encourage a more responsible attitude towards weapons.
- Banning fully automatic weapons. They capacity for damage is simply too high. Fortunately, the US already bans fully automatic weapons.
- Register guns.
- License permits (without ridiculous restrictions).
Also, address your healthcare, higher education and racism (which bizarrely I see more from the Left)![]()
