Scoring systems we are familiar with (plus my own).
I re-watched the fight and scored according to PRIDE Rules, 10 Point Must and my own Point System
PRIDE Rules are simple for this one: Gus was beaten badly in the 4th and 5th rounds so based on strong finish and a close fight before that, Jones wins.
10 Point Must is muddy so this is where things get vague for people:
Using the scoring system I developed a while ago, where each move is given a point value and strikes are awarded by rounds Gus loses:
Alexander Gustafsson
2 Takedowns = 1.0 points
General Striking Rounds 1, 2, 3 = 3.0 points
TOTAL = 4.0 POINTS
Jon Jones
1 Takedown = 0.5 point
General Striking Rounds 4 & 5 = 5.0 points
TOTAL = 5.5 POINTS
WINNER = JON JONES
The very clear thing that came out of that fight is that Jon has bad head movement and has A LOT of trouble with anyone with a reach close to his. This is why I postulated that Rumble was the one guy who would come into a fight with Jones as the favorite imo. Huge reach, decent take down defense and monstrous power that could easily land on Jones' stationary noggin'. Unfortunately, that fight will never be (or won't be with Rumble in top form).

- Gus definitely won the 1st. Pretty close though.
- Gus could have won both the 2nd and 3rd but both were close enough that one of them could have gone to Jones.
- Gus gets severely rocked in the 4th and is lucky that it happened more towards the end of the round.
- Jones beats the shit out of Gus in the 5th.
