You can live comfortably on 50k in Austin. You're basically homeless in San Jose on that income.

So many hipsters though. But generally nice folks in my experience there.

50K here, you're sharing a room with someone, not even an apartment. The amount of people living in their cars is ridiculous. People who actually go to work, but can't afford to pay rent.
