He's always had the frame to carry more muscle, so I don't think it'll affect his cardio/mobility too much, if at all.

Looking like a very bad motherfucker.

I honestly don't think powerlifting is beneficial for MMA, just my opinion though.
I was doing some power lifting a few months ago. Got a lot more buff looking but it didn't help my sparring at all really. I actually think it hurt it because all of my energy was blown from lifting and I didn't feel 100% in sparring...more like 70%. I've readjusted my program since and still do some power lifting but way less and feel so much better now. I think I have found where I get the maximum benefits from it, without it taking away from it.

We will see how Jon performs when he comes back, but even then he will have been out for over a year and could be rusty. Two fights should give us an accurate view.

Also, Jones is now hanging out with these steroided out powerlifters. He has done coke and stuff in the past, hopefully he isn't on PEDs now. Overeem started hanging out with guys like that and got buff all of a sudden and we know how that turned out as soon as real drug tests started.

I thought Overeem was just eating horse meat? (-:

Jones has big obstacles when he moves up to heavyweight, in my opinion. He has said himself he can't bust a grape and that's at lhw. Moving up with the big boys that will be much more evident. The smaller successful hw's in the past have seemed to have the power he lacks. Jon is a different animal due to his unorthodox style, but still without the power I find it difficult to believe he will be a true force. That said, he does train with hw's, so his confidence in moving up must come from somewhere.

I would expect he would slim down during camp, this is probably near the end of a bulking cycle. He's never had bad cardio, so while more muscle does tire people out quicker, I'm hesitant to say it would make him gas to add some extra muscle. It might just be that Jon Jones never trained in the off season, so was never at his absolute peak condition, which is a scary thought.
I happen to follow him on Facebook.
He pretty much stated just that.
This is his "build strength" phase.
After December(?) He will switch to another (technique/endurance?) phase and then will come the fight camp.

He will begin fight camp in beast mode... which is scary in and of itself...

When he wins against Cormier, is me buffet going to say "and still" or "and new"?

Disclaimer - if Jones kept an offseason doing nothing, this is better than that.
BUT optimally, you train how you fight.
If he is going to use a new game plan, go to heavyweight soon, etc. so be it.

But I'd say its a little more complicated than just more or less muscle. Fast twitch, slow twitch fiber recruitment. Not all muscle is the same.
I'm just thinking that 7 months might have been better spent in MMA specific training, rather than one rep max on his bench.

This is of course all conjecture since we'll probably find out he's doing a an 18 minute 3 mile like Tito was.
