First off-

A (young) Lebron fan might try to counter, "well if Jordan is better than Lebron b/c he has more championships, then Bill Russell is better than Jordan".

Flawed logic. These same people will not try to act like Robert Horry is greater, because his 7 championship rings.

Regarding Bill Russell's 11 championships, Did You Know-

How many readers are aware of how many seasons Bill Russell averaged 20 or more points per game for a season?

ZERO

Bill Russell's first championship Bill had two teammates average 20 or more points per game(Bob Cousey/Bill Sharmen)

Bill's regular season ppg 14.7 dropped in the playoffs to 13.9ppg.

Bill Russell's 2nd championship had two of Bill's teammates join him as NBA All Stars. Bill's 2nd championship Bill was not the leading scorer of his team. He was not the 2nd leading scorer. Bill was not even the 3rd highest scorer on the team. On a team of five starters, Bill Russell had the 4th highest ppg.

Bill Russell's 3rd championship he was the 4th highest scoring starter on his team

Bill's 4th championship he was the 3rd highest scorer

Bill's 5th championship he was barely the 2nd highest scorer, however his #'s increased in the playoffs(unlike previous years) and this championship has a solid argument for Bill being the mvp of the team/series.

Bill's 6th championship he was the 3rd highest scorer

Bill's 7th championship he was the 4th highest scorer

Bill's 8th championship he was 3rd highest scorer

Bill's 9th championship he was 4th highest scorer, narrowly beating out the 5th leading scorer(12.6) by averaging 12.9ppg.

Bill's 10th championship he was 4th highest scorer, beating out the 5th leading scorer(12.2) by averaging 12.5ppg

Bill's 11th championship Bill was 7th leading scorer. There are 5 starters, Bill managed to have four teammate starters, as well as two bench players average more points than Bill did, with less minutes played.

Some people will try to point out that Lebron "never lost in the first round of the playoffs, Michael Jordan lost in the first round 3 times".

Well, context is key.

Lebron James rookie year he failed to lead his team to the playoffs.

Michael Jordan's rookie year, leads his team to the playoffs but loses in the first round to a 63 win season team. Somehow losing in the first round(as a rookie) is worse than not making it to the playoffs as a rookie?

Michael's 2nd season he leads his team to the playoffs, losing to a 67 win team and eventual NBA Champions.
Lebron's 2nd season Lebron leads his team to Almost making the playoffs.

Michael's 3rd season he again leads his team to the playoffs, losing to 59 win season defending champ Celtics.

Lebron's 3rd season, he finally leads his team to the playoffs, losing in the 2nd round to eventual champion Detroit Pistons.

Some people like to point out that "Jordan had help"

Michael Jordan is one of ten players to have won an NBA Championship being the only All Star on his team. Lebron is also on this list.
Only two have done it twice, one being Michael Jordan, and the other being Hakeem Olajuwon, who won his two when Jordan temporarily retired. (Jordan in 91 and 97)

Further more, Michael Jordan NEVER had a teammate average more than 22 points in the finals. 6 for 6.
Two times Lebron James had teammates average 26(Dwayne Wade) and 28(Kyrie Irving) in the finals, and Lebron stlil managed to lose.

People like to suggest that Lebron's finals losses were not fair because Lebron is one all star on his team competing against a super team of 3 all stars. To them I say-

Let’s not forget how amazing “Space Jam” is.
I was working at a movie theatre when that movie came out and I got to see it the day before it's official release. I felt mucho important.
Many years later that feeling still exist regarding seeing this movie before most, so, yeah, Space Jam for the win.

Lead the league in steals

Lead the league in scoring

Won NBA All Star Game MVP

Won Defensive Player of the Year

Won the NBA Dunk contest

"Players of today are far more athletic, superior training methods, and in general the game has evolved. Players back then wouldn't be able to be as athletic as players of today".

Where is this based on? Are players dunking from the 3 point line now? Michael Jordan was dunking from the FT line in 86. Lebron James has almost dunked from the free throw line, and he's supposed to be evolved and superior athlete?

Watch some of Jordan's games, and tell me where evolution could have helped Jordan. Tell me where Jordan should have zigged instead of zagged. Tell me, specifically what teams did then that they could have done which is what teams are doing now.

Defensive 3 second violation. How many are aware this rule didn't go into effect until 2000?

This means that majority of Michael Jordan's career, the other team's biggest/best defensive players, the rim protectors, could hang out in the paint the entire game. Michael still managed to get more ppg in a game that had this rule. Can you imagine if Jordan played his whole career having the defensive 3 second violation in effect?

Some Lebron fans might suggest that "Jordan didn't have the competition Lebron had".

Centers Michael Jordan had to play against in no particular order-
Dikembe Mutombo
Patrick Ewing
David Robinson
Alonzo Mourning
Hakeem Olajuwon
Shaquille O'neal

Jordan had to play against Power Forwards like
Tim Duncan
Karl Malone
Charles Barkley
Dennis Rodman
Kevin Garnett
Chris Webber
Shawn Kemp
Larry Johnson

Jordan had to play against Small Forwards like
Larry Bird
Dominick Wilkins
Glen Rice
Chris Mullin
James Worthy

Jordan had to play against Shooting Guards like
Clyde Drexler
Joe Dumars
Reggie Miller
Mitch Richmond

Jordan had to play against Point Guards like
John Stockton
Magic Johnson
Jason Kidd
Penny Hardaway
Isiah Thomas
Steve Nash
Tim Hardaway
Mark Price
Mark Jackson
Gary Payton

On top of all this, in my opinion the four greatest centers of all time are Kareem, Olajuwon, Shaq, and Wilt. I think Olajuwon is the greatest but regardless, Jordan played against two of the best centers of all time. As soon as Michael retired the first time, Shaq lead his team to the finals and Olajuwon lead his team to two titles, when Jordan wasn't there to compete.

I think the 3 best power forwards of all time are Dirk, Malone, and Duncan. Jordan won a title against Malone and also dominated Tim Duncan back when he still had David Robinson. There's a great double overtime thriller where Jordan lifts his team to beat the Spurs who were establishing themselves as a dynasty. Worth a watch(re-watch)

I think Magic Johnson and John Stockton are the 2 best point guards of all time. Besides competing against them Jordan won championships against both.

What Tim Duncan is better?

The one who beat Lebron James in 2014 where his season #'s were-
9.7 reb, 3 assist, .7 steals, 1.9 steals, and 15.1 ppg

or

Rookie Tim Duncan who lost to Michael Jordan without Scottie Pippen where he averaged #'s like-
12 reb, 2.7 assist, .7 steals, 2.5 blocks, and 21.1 ppg

We invented the fucking game, America is only best at it because a couple hundred years ago you stole a bunch of people from another continent who have a propensity to grow 7 feet or higher and jump really high.
Fat chance. The game was invented in kansas not by a bunch of apologists
