We did a ton of research on Unions this past month and complied it into one episode of our podcast.

Here is what I learned:

1. Fighters are "Private Contractors" and don't fit normal Union Guidelines.
2. Fighter would need to for an "Association" or "Group" rather than a "Union".
3. Jon Fitch and Nate Quarry have started an MMA Association.
4. It would take most fighters (a Union is 3/4 the current employed) to join to have a "Bill of Rights" instituted
5. Fighters are not contractually obligated not to join a Union (Bloody Elbow has a press release telling fighters that they can but the UFC advises against it circa 2014)

The speculation we come up with is that the fighters that are currently in support of Conor (Jones, Pettis, McDonald, Conor himself) are polarizing fighters enough that this may be the time the spark has ignited to start the REAL process to forming an association.

Thoughts?

Good details. The only inaccuracy is that you don't need 3/4 of all workers to certify a union. Only 50% + 1 of the bargaining unit. So if it was the UFC which has about 500 fighters, 251 would have to vote in favor.
