Am I looking at this as an Ohio State vs USC game?
Yes. Yes I am.

Solid start by Caleb. I think that's 6 out of 6.

It's pretty obvious that the NFL wants prime time quarterbacks on prime time TV.

You might not think so, but just pay attention, to the teams on prime time TV and who is their quarterback.

This game should not be on prime time TV IMHO.

That flag came out way early. I guarantee Mahomes saw it before he chucked that ball. My wife was cussing the int, and told her it was a free play. If I saw it in the nose bleeds, Mahomes knew it before he threw it.

Well... rewatched the Ravens game.

My thoughts:

Offense:
  • Right side of the line is terrible when Mekari is in the game. Faalele is overmatched against speed. Rosengarten struggles against bull rushers. So Faalele/Rosengarten is a better option than Faalele/Mekari just due to their weaknesses.
  • They NEED to stop rotating series at RT. The line needs to gel in a consistent state.
  • Harbaugh is getting too cute with TE rotation. Kolar is seeing too many snaps and generally tips off running plays. It also may be time to consider trading Andrews. Likely is too good to be TE2 and is still cheap.
  • Bateman fucking caused an INT on a pass that hit him right in the goddamned hands.
  • Tucker has the yips from 50+. I wonder how much of it is having a different long snapper in each of the last two years... and Stout isn't as good of a holder as Koch.
  • Henry is still a monster. He pretty much killed the 3rd quarter. Will definitely be the closer.
Defense

  • Madabuike/Jones may be the most disruptive DT combo in the league. They were always creating havoc and crushed the run game.
  • Orr needs to figure out how to avoid having off ball backers playing man on #1 WR/TEs. Rice killed them last week and Bowers this week with schemed matchups. Oakland completely abandoned the run in the second half but it seemed like the scheme didn't account for it properly.
  • Malik Harrison should never be on the field over Trenton Simpson. Simpson may still be learning, but he's enough of an athlete to not get taken advantage of like Harrison.
  • Baltimore needed Wiggins this game. Davante Adams was too much for Brandon Stephens. Oakland did a good job of keeping Adams away from Marlon in the second half.
  • Orr also needs to just stick Hamilton on the TE in crunch time. There is no reason that anyone except him should have been covering Bowers once he got hot.
  • Oweh is finally playing to his potential. 2.5 sacks, a FF, and was consistently getting pressure.
  • Van Noy is a dawg. 2 sacks with a broken orbital.
Refs:
  • Egregious face mask call on a crucial sack where there was zero contact with the face mask.
  • Terrible PI late in the game led to the Raiders tying TD.
  • Lamar does not get QB calls when its close...
  • Henry caught a break getting a roughness call where he was technically out of bounds but the defensive hit was minimal
Yeah... this is going to be a long fucking season if the line doesn't come together. Coaches also have some scheme work to do. The talent is there... just gotta get them in the position to succeed.

One thing I got wrong was that I assumed more teams would make the change faster on defense and would start running Big Nickel more than they are. A few teams made it their base package like Bills and Panther for a while but not nearly as much as I thought they would.
I feel like defenses are missing out on that change they could make but I just could be wrong in that its not gonna come about if offenses quickly become more run heavy. Big Nickel will be skipped over and defense will go back to more traditional bases.

The fix is in with the chiefs
They are the nfl’s little baby
They lost that game, but the no fun league will do anything to get them a win
The protected have been exposed!

I don't buy that. The contact didn't happen until the ball was getting there. How could the flag be out before he threw it? It was a PI, not a hold. PI can't happen until the ball is in the air
