I just don't see how this furthers an agenda of more restrictive gun laws, considering that everything on The List is already law in New Zealand.
I guess everything except Universal Registration. But AFAIK, that's never been successfully employed to prevent or solve a crime.

They had it here. Scrapped it (expensive to run, and wasn't used to prevent or solve crime) annnnnd they're trying to bring it back.
i just don't understand why some people think that the only thing keeping the guy who wrote that manifesto from killing a bunch of innocent people was his ability to get a gun.

I disagree. I think things like distance and commuication without a 'face' make some people completely unattached from tragedies so they feel they can insert unhelpful agendas.
However, there are people - particularly BJJ Kiwi and others here from NZ, and to a lesser degree those like myself (has a NZ spouse and is getting married in NZ) - who do feel somewhat genuinely attached and feel like there's no place for useless debates/comments in threads like these.
