I think Billy is the right man for the job at Florida. He just needs a little more time. I say extend him for 5 years, minimum
Suggestion I saw is hire Billy as analyst and bring DJ Lagway to Georgia as a transfer. I would sign up for that.

Being a fired football coach is once again proving to be potentially lucrative. If Mike Norvell gets canned now he’s owed $65MM. If Billy Napier gets axed he’s owed $26MM. One one hand it would suck to be the next big thing in coaching only to have it fall apart and your rep tarnished. On the other hand, I’ll take $26MM to not show up to work Monday morning.
Fired college football coach is one of the best jobs in the nation.

Always remember Coach O's reaction:

The fact that Steve Spurrier is still the mayor of Athens just stings like a mofo, doesn’t it?
The 90s were great for Florida, without a doubt. But that was a long time ago. Yale used to be good at football too

It was UGA that made Spurrier quit mid-season. He'll never get that back. And Smart already has twice as many national championships as Spurrier

I'll take it

So the answer to my question is “yes, it still stings”. Noted!

True. Norvell can coach. They’ll be fine.
Not what I meant. They're not paying that buyout anytime soon. He just had an undefeated year but regardless they're not shelling out that kind of money. They don't have it.

He had two 10 win plus seasons in a row and only the third undefeated in history so it will take a few years of shit before anyone wants to consider it. Like who is going to come in and be better for sure. We have had long stretches of mediocrity since the 90s haydays so I don't think the people running the show have the short leash mentality. That said it will be a big deal how this season ends. Like if they show some rebound at least that's a big difference than if it just never gets better. At least he doesn't have to worry about the winning season stretch :)

DJ isn't good but the whole team is having issues. So much special teams fuck ups in the last game. The highly touched defensive front is mediocre. The receivers drop anything good DJ does manage and the running game hasn't been good since the first drive of GAtech. There's really no part of the team doing well. It isn't like the Jeff Bowden era when the defense was top 5 and the offense was bottom 5. Anyhow who cares right now. It's an irrelevant team for this season. I mean obviously I care but FSU isn't really worth any air time now.

I think it'll get better. Hell, it can only get better, right?

Never know man. But yeah probably. There's talent. I don't know enough about football to know what's going wrong. If not for the track record I'd obviously say coaching.

He needs to clean house on almost his entire staff except Alex Atkins. He kept previous staff holdovers Ron Dugans and Odell Hagans. He has to surround himself with recruiters and stop relying on the portal to restock his roster.

And last but not least stop calling plays and be a HC. He has too much on his plate to continue to do that. Plus he isn't that good at it.

Mostly true. FSU wasn't undefeated last season
But FSU has been 0-3 three times ever and he's responsible for two of them. And one of those he was 0-4.
Regular season is what I meant. I'm not saying the bowl game doesn't count just saying that's a rare achievement.

He had some grace period that first time but obviously.he owns this one.

Can't put it all on the QB obviously but it's hard not to imagine the difference if they got Ward. The losses were all close, he probably could have made up for the other deficiencies. Obviously it's working out for him, no shade there.

I love his 5-5 for 7 yard stat

DJ is who he is. He is just average at that level

If I'm an FSU fan I have multiple concerns. Average recruiting based on potential, over emphasis on the portal, lack of in-house development, and feast or famine results.

I don't follow the program terribly close but from an outsider's perspective it doesn't bode well. Reminds me of Auburn. 2008 5-7. 2010 undefeated. 2012 3-9. 2013 12-2. That inconsistency will kill a program more than 8-5 every season will, imo
