Damn, he got his comeuppance I suppose. I've read about that before, but I don't think I've ever seen that pic. I was about to say 'it was a different time' or something to that effect, but now I'm not sure it really is all that different than today.

War is ugly now, as it was then.

Mussolini escaped once...

he was a boxer.
in the Army Air Corps.

didn't know he could box until he went in to the Army, he was a southpaw who learned to fight orthodox. Had a lead left hook that would bring out all the stars in the sky. The AAC was short on legit fighters, so they put an MP uniform on him and sent him to the Philippines, because that's where all the overseas boxing was happening. But deep down he was the biggest teddy bear in the world, so he never wanted to fight for living. I asked him what weight class he fought, and he laughed and said "the step-through-the-ropes" class.

I love stories like that. I always take the time to listen to people from that era. It is unimaginable for us to be apart of such an enormous war, whether you wanted or not. An older gentleman here in town told me about going through North Africa, with malaria in the back of a truck, ending up in Italy drinking pilfered wine with the locals that were so happy they got liberated.

I was fortunate enough to wear a uniform without being part in any war. And while I do believe there always will be conflict and war, let's hope there won't be another world war.
