No matter your opinion on Putin. You have to at least give him credit for being able to win a rigged election. I mean could you imagine what type of incompetent sack of excrement It would take to fail at that?
What about Hilar..........oh, i just got it

I find this stuff interesting.

I wonder how Russians view America, I know they think Western Countries are corrupt and Western Countries think Russia is corrupt. The truth is that both parties are correct.

By and large Russian view Americans positively and the American government negatively. Literally every single thing that happens bad to Russia is due to the US causing it.

Russia invades eastern Ukraine? It's because America supported the separatist and Russia was forced to go in to save the ethnic Russians.

Russia hands out thousands of passports in South ossetia and then invades? Once again just the West aka USA trying to kill ethnic Russians and all those people with Russian passports now need Russian protection.

Eastern Bloc countries getting passports handed out and Russian propaganda radio.... Well you see where this is going.

Oil prices go down, Russian oil is no longer competitive, it's because the West has mismanaged the market abusing the dollar as Reserve currency to do so (because putting American Oil operations out of business with low oil prices makes a lot of sense).

I've watched dozens of interviews with Putin supporting Russians. The general feeling is that he's corrupt but he's the devil they know. And as long as their GDP keeps looking upwards and Chechen Muslims are not bombing Moscow, Putin is doing a good job. If it weren't for the West, Putin could restore the Russian Union and restore integrity and international Prestige to the Russians. And hey, if they have it wrong they have a long history of Simply removing czars, so no big deal. Democracy is overrated. What they want is the benevolent dictator.

Some more than others, I think. After the last UK elections I've come to realise that the media (and friends) decide who takes power, I'd go as far to say that current democracy is an illusion of choice for most people - especially the older generations that still rely on TV and newspapers to get their news.

Other than the fact that the House of Commons is amazingly Ruckus, I don't have a full understanding of British political structures.

But in the US everybody always makes the appeal to Europe. We should definitely have the British system, but nobody espousing this seems to know what that entails

I've no doubt Putin is corrupt, but I also genuinely think he wants the best for Russian citizens.

Love him or hate him, Putin has backbone and not someone to fucked with.

Saw this video awhile back, I really wish we had a leader that has this kind of approach.

How do you change it? The idea is that you choose a representative for your local area so that your local area gets a say in parliament, your not just voting a leader, your voting for the party and what it stands for.

The UK is made up of 650 constituencies

Each constituency has a representative in government (Minister of Parliament), who will debate and vote on laws in parliament etc. At election time representatives of each constituency will fight for the local area vote, if they win they become MP for that area and a seat in parliament.

The party with the majority of MP's at the end of the election wins, which must be at least 326 seats, otherwise they have to form alliances with other parties (with the Queens permission).

In theory the government that controls the majority of seats can pass every law they want because as long as all members of that party vote the same way they will always get more than 50% of the votes. The reality is slightly different though because a party member of the 'in power' party may vote against the party wishes, for a number of reasons such as feeling a new law negatively effects their constituency or just because they are being a cunt. The more seats in parliament you have, the powerful you are.

It's not THAT different to the US system. You vote for your preferred regional Member of Parliament (MP) in the general election and the party with the most MPs wins. You also have local elections for your Local Councillors. Our government consists of 2 houses; the House of Commons which is democratically elected in the general election and populated with MPs, and the House of Lords which is populated with Peers who are NOT democratically elected. The House of Commons does most of the legislation but it has to be signed off by the House of Lords and the Queen. That's usually ceremonial but recently the House of Lords did prevent a bill going through (for welfare cuts).

The US also has two chambers, the House of Representatives and the US Senate, except BOTH are elected. And they also have local elections. They have a president and we have a prime minister. In some countries, these are two separate roles but they are effectively the same role in the UK and US, which is party leader.

In a parliamentary democracy, there is zero chance of a retard like Trump becoming leader of the nation.

I'm all for a switch.

Pretty sure the regions are based on population. Leigh @Leigh Zeph @Zeph or Coast @Coast please confirm.

@Splinty news flash - Trump lost the popular vote

But the nature of seats, as described above, mean that votes get clumped together in regional quantitative units. Its members by region and not direct democracy.

That's fairly analogous to precincts and referencing popular vote doesn't describe the process.
