Fuck.

No.

You guys are worse off than we are. The only place lower on my list is Australia. That's not to say there isn't great people in both of those places, but the over reaching of unelected officials is what I'm trying to get away from.
In the democracy index USA is ranked at 21st having a 'Flawed Democracy', the UK is 14th and having a 'Full Democracy'. I think its a bit unfair, the UK is at least as bad as the USA.

Canada, however is ranked 6th.

In Canada we have 3 levels of legislative government.

1) Members of parliament. (Are no longer allowed to vote against party policy even if their constituency demands it)
2) The Senate (Lifetime appointments and unelected)
3 The Governor General - The Queen's representative in Canada (Also unelected)

Explain to me again how democratic Canada is?

Is it just American policies that you like or a specific state for some reasons?
Both. As mentioned above, our "democracy" is on shambles. Our rights are frequently usurped by the government's wishes. Tomorrow the government is likely to present a bill that will allow the RCMP to make laws, but I digress. If I'm picking between states there are some I prefer to others, but I'd likely go somewhere warm. The Northwest is very tempting though.

I don't know how Canadian politics work. Do 2 and 3 frequently prevent No.1 from operating? I.E pass laws that have not been agreed by 1 or prevent laws created by 1 from passing?

That's not much of an argument to the contrary at all.

Facts are facts. A great majority of Russians support Putin.
Because they know what happens when they don't.
A great many Ugandans "supported" Idi Amin as well. Same reason. A great many North Koreans support Kim Jung Un as well. Same reason.
Pussy Riot didn't - and paid the price. Along with a few other journalists and political opponents....

This is not the same thing at all.

A multitude of independent polling shows actual and real support for Putin.

Pussy Riot didn't - and paid the price. Along with a few other journalists and political opponents....
No one is discussing public displays of protest being legal or not.

The question is whether people support Putin in private, and all of the evidence points that a majority do.

Feel free to link independent pulling to the contrary, but you won't find it.
Pew, NPR, Washington Post, you name it. They are all on the same page here.

A "majority" do yah, probably because their standard of living has improved under Putin .... but they are still manipulated, programmed sheep. Not Not too different from tactics of Kim & NK.
Some interesting Russian thoughts:
'A harsh but just ruler': what do Russians think about Putin? | Eva Hartog and others
"The average Russian welcomes the idea of a “harsh but just” ruler."
"Nevertheless, we made our choice. Whether right or wrong, it’s what we decided."

"If not Putin, then who else?"

So it's not like he is some benevolent, extremely loved leader.

You are acting like I said otherwise. Way too much inference going on.
Stating facts isn't a statement of support.

Most of what you're saying is supported in my other posts on the first page of this thread...

Russians know he is corrupt.
They don't care...

Russians were promised Coca-Cola and Levi's and the oligarchs chopped up the country.

Russians carry a longing for some level of international prestige. Strongman Putin offers a return to the Glory Days of the unification of the union.

Putin will continue a campaign of Boogeyman and land taking until Russian Commodities are priced high enough to improve GDP and Reliance in Russian exports. The average russian citizen is politically sensitive to both. Putin protecting from The Boogeyman or Putin growing the economy and your lifestyle. Either way, Putin is the solution.
I've watched dozens of interviews with Putin supporting Russians. The general feeling is that he's corrupt but he's the devil they know. And as long as their GDP keeps looking upwards and Chechen Muslims are not bombing Moscow, Putin is doing a good job. If it weren't for the West, Putin could restore the Russian Union and restore integrity and international Prestige to the Russians. And hey, if they have it wrong they have a long history of Simply removing czars, so no big deal. Democracy is overrated. What they want is the benevolent dictator
